Alright so I recently got drawn for the MN Camp Ripley bow hunt. And I got to thinking I don't want to lug around a bunch of steps and a hang on stand. Just takes too much time to put up. So here's my question. What is a good reliable climbing stand for a cheap college kid like myself?
I'd say shell out the $180 for a Summit Bushmaster. Ultra comfortable, relatively light, a little bulky though because it doesn't fold up, but the lack moving parts keeps it quiet. That's what I have. I wish I had a lone wolf hand climber just because of the flat profile but I don't have $400 for a stand.
I've contemplated the Ripley hunt for a couple years now. I don't have any advice as far as the stand because I'm actually in the market for one as well but keep us updated on that hunt please and good luck when it rolls around!
I bought a really nice used Gorrilla stand off Craigslist last year. A little heavy to pack long distance but for $75...who cares.
I did contemplate it too but from my buddies pics last year i couldn't resit going with them. I'm also going the 1st weekend in November so it should be a good hunt. I'll keep you guys posted
Hard to beat a summit viper. $180ish new and around 20# I think, but it's easy to use and easily the most comfortable iv used
I just picked up a brand new summit viper classic for $100 on Craigslist. Most comfortable stand I have ever sat in.
The bushmaster weighs 18 lbs. I can't stand the front bar on the viper. That's why I went with the bushmaster.
I would look online for a used one. Craigslist usually has some especially since you are a college kid. I have been on the venison and ramen noodle diet before. This time of the year is great to stock up on some groceries in the woods.
like most have said check craigslist. For a climbing stand i'll only use Summit i absolutely love my summit and haven't found another climber i would rather have. You can also check ebay i bought a summit viper last year off ebay for 100 bucks to my door.
Love my API Marksman! Affordable, comfortable, light, easy to use..... Bought mine two weeks ago! Paid 200.oo seen one cheaper but that was a bid box store. Paid a little more but supporting my local archery shop.
I would suggest you check out ol'man stands. It is pretty sweet. The net style seat is so comfy. I can sit all day no problem in mine.
