Only saw two small bucks this morning. Passed behind me and moved off. Gonna recharge and head back out for the evening sit!
Alright fellas, no deer last night but day two starts in 8 hours. I'm gonna set up my stand in a nice pine thicket for the morning sit. Then in the afternoon I'll be in my favorite spot - a nice tree directly over a stream and known water hole.
Great to hear yall are getting out there. I had a golf tournament saturday all day, then I had to landscape for 9-10 hours sunday so needless to say I didn't have time to get in the stand. I'm scouting out another place friday and should be hunting next weekend, ready to let some arrows fly!!
Had one fawn and possibly one doe spot me in the stand this morning (I wasn't high enough and they came out uphill of me) so I called it quits early, around 830. No point in staying in that spot. Rookie mistake getting in a tree with no cover, I should know better. Anyways, I'm excited for this evening's sit. If this year is anything like last year in this spot, I should be seeing some good movement!
Bound to happen once in a while - don't sweat it. Good luck to everyone lucky enough to be hunting!! :-)
Had a lot of movement real late. Started around 7p. Saw two fawns and a big doe about 80 yards off feeding and messing around on the edge of the corn field where the hedgerow starts (straight ahead in this pic) Then I saw a spike still in velvet, probably 1.5 year old and two more fawns about 50-60 yards out in the far left of this lane (just beyond the trees): That view from up high is also kinda deceiving. The brush is at least waist high and some of the thick stuff is 5-6 feet tall. That combined with the ground having shallow dips and gullies means deer can pop in and out of view all over the place. I'll keep trying this spot in the evening but this is a public WMA and there's only 4 hunters allowed per day. You have to call and make a reservation so not always able to hunt it. After the early season weekend warriors die down around late September, I can get in there pretty regularly every few days or at least every week or so.
Oh and even though it was only about 75 out yesterday afternoon, it was HOT. Not even trying today. It was 75 by 9am. High of 92 today.
Hey guys! Pulled my cams yesterday one was flooded so I don't know if I'll get pics off it, but the other one showed a lot of mornin activity with 1 good buck on it. I hunt in a EAB zone so I have to smoke a doe before I can chase the big boy.
Well guys, looks like Saturday is gonna be nice 'round these parts! Good wind direction, great temps and i love being out when the sun is out as long as it's not too warm! Gonna hunt the same spot I did this past Saturday except i'll be in slightly better position this time. Hopefully i'll have a chance to get a better look at the same buck I saw Saturday!
HEy teammates... This is what I'm working with for next thursday... Let me know what you think... I can't tell if that first buck is a 6 or an 8, but he's a shooter in my book for public land. That camera is setup on a corn field surrounded by woods near a marsh.
