So I'm going in 2 weeks to my property that I can hunt on. This will be my first season hunting. I don't think I will be climbing the tree fast or even confidently. I was thinking of hanging it up and leaving it up though my neighbor says he sometimes hunts on it(he cares for it, so we allow him too). Also he sees people go on the land sometimes, he will chase them down but he isn't always home or awake. I want to leave my treestand but worry some body else will A.use it or B.take it. I plan to take the climbing sticks with me when I'm done and just leave the stand on. Does anybody lock their stand to a tree? I'm using a LW alpha. Am I over worrying?
If you dont mind losing a $250 stand then leave it up. I wouldnt. Just practice climbing with it and get used to it. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I will leave mine up in certain areas, but its not an LW. If you were going to leave it I would definatley take the stick and put a cable lock on the stand.
Invest in a hang on tree and the screw in steps. I have had tree stands stolen before leaving them on tree like you're talking about. With the screw in steps all you have to do is take them out high enough so nobody can get up to them. Just remember to always take your steps back with you. LOL
similar to this, I leave the steps in the tree, as they are easy to overlook, and just take the stand home. Its easy to climb the tree again the next time with the step already in, and then just rehang the stand. steps are fairly cheap to replace, but I have not had any stolen yet.
I also use multiple LW sets. Here is what I personally do: Hang my LW sets one high/one 4' lower, typical cameraman set up. I lock both stands to the tree with a heavy duty cable lock. I use the 4 piece LW climbing sticks on my sets as well. I remove the bottom three steps and pack them out. So I'm leaving my two stands and the top climbing stick, which is at least 15' up still in the tree. Now this isn't fool proof, but someone going to make a lot of noise and spend a lot of time trying to steal my stands......just my 2 cents.
I would leave it and lock it down. I think karma is a b$#^& for those individuals who steal tree stands!!!!
I would leave the stand up and take down the climbing sticks. Thats what I would do if I was worried about my stand getting.stolen.
Talk to Treehopper about his climbing steps. You can take em right out after you're done and no one will be able to get up to your stand (at least not without lots of added effort)
