I thought about that and toyed with it. In order to achieve a broadhead look the image has to be quite a bit taller than it is wide and it would have a lot of dead space. Posted as an avatar the print would almost be too small to see. I'll be happy to try it but it'll have to wait until Monday. I'm off work tomorrow and I don't have any graphics capable programs on my iMac here at home.
Well fellow Nock Stars, I got some good news from one of my landowners the other day- he decided to let me put a food plot in. Here's the location: It would be inside the white hook. High ground on both sides, big bedding/hill top to the west in the timber. Hay field east, beans north and north east. Creek runs right along the west side of the plot as well.
Not yet. At least not yet on this stupid Mac. I'll fix it on my profile on Monday. If you fellows want to go ahead and use it, you probably can. I should just break down and drop $200 on Microsoft Office for Mac. Oops, that's your avatar with the top cut off, not mine. :D
Can I change my avatar while using tapatalk? My laptop is good for a paperweight, but that's about it. That food plot looks like it will be a great place to hunt! Are you gonna try and have it in for this season?
I'm going to try and get it done this year. It's about 3/4 of an acre. I'm thinking Im going to use Realworld Wildlife Seed's products... "Plot Topper" We have spent years testing various fall planted seed species to come up with our Fall Plot Topper. This blend of turnips, sugar beets, radish, brassicas and rape will have the deer feeding in your plot from early season through late winter as the various plants reach their peak attractiveness at different stages. Fall Plot Topper can be planted alone as the primary crop or it can be broadcast over other crops such as Real World soybeans, Harvest Salad or Whitetail Oats as an added attraction to those plots. And "Whitetail Harvest Salad" Our Whitetail Harvest Salad is the result of testing literally dozens of fall planted species and varieties to develop a blend that attracts deer like a magnet. The base of this blend is Austrian winter peas with enough winter wheat and winter hardy oats to give the deer variety and keep them coming back for more. In our test plots the deer kept these varieties mowed to the ground. This blend is the perfect compliment to round out any foodplot program.
How many of y'all use stands strictly for observation? I have some places on public land that has swamp to one side, soy and corn on the other but have a hard time pinning down where the deer come out. It's about a 4 mile hike in cause its surrounded by private land and I've already asked for access. Denied. I'm wanting to have a stand over looking the crops to see where deer are coming out and don't expect to kill anything in that stand. But will help me when I move it another day. Who does this?
Sure I've done this before. I've also gone in during late season when the deer were outsmarting me and just sat an observation stand that allows me to see 1/2 the farm. Did this so that I could find where the big doe groups were yarded up at. I knew I wasn't going to kill anything, but that sit told me where the deer were at.
What do you guys think of ground blinds? I have a Ameristep Bonecollector blind and I just had guy tell me he has shot in the past thee years he's shot 3 bucks over 150" out of a ground blind and yes I saw pictures!! But he said if you brush it up it works fine? He said also he said he sets over scrape line and sits in his blind after it rains/snows waiting for the bucks to come refreshen their scrapes, anyone have experience with this???
I've never used a pop up blind, but have used permanent blinds in the past. I think they work great, but the key would be to get it out as soon as you can so the deer get use to it and cover it with natural vegetation. And as always watch your entry and exit and play the wind. Something I'm learning is that if you play the wind with a perfect entry and exit you can hunt a not perfect spot with more success.
Yeah I am putting it out tomorrow! Pobably wouldn't hunt it until middle of October! But it's getting put out tomorrow!
That's a goal of mine this year, I want to kill a doe out of a ground blind with my bow. Just seems like it would be cool to be eye level with them
