Very sorry to hear that. I just had a cam stolen last week on private land that I have been hunting for 15 years. Terrible feeling!!!
Damn dude. Is this the new place you got towards the end of the season last year? I'd ask the landowner and anybody else that might have wandered through there.
What I have been doing for a few years is laminating a small index card that says "If you steal this stand, you better steal any trail cams you walked by too" and "This camera requires a password so it is literally worthless to steal". I affix these to cameras or stands just to give would-be theives a reason to think about what they are doing. Not sure how effective it is, but I am yet to have anything stolen. I also lock everything up with thick braided cable because if they are going to steal from me, they are going to have to work for it. Cables are much cheaper if you buy them at a farm store with crimps and just make the loops yourself and hammer the crimps with a hammer and chisel.
I just happen to have a $45 stand, a $2 pull rope and some steps available haha. That is awful though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
Dude you can have the stand it was a Richards special with 3 seasons under it's belt. Can I have my cam back though ??
All joking aside, I hope you get your stuff back buddy. I need to know what bucks I can shoot when I come visit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
Sorry to hear! I've been there. One year we lost around $1500 worth of equipment on our lease to thieves. Luckily one of our LEO members narrowed it down and put the fear of god into the SOB's. Haven't had many problems since.
I wonder if there is some sort of cheap GPS chip one could put in a few cheap 'decoy' stands and wait for the person to strike again. If not, someone should invent that.
That bites! I had 3 cameras stolen from me last year, all on private property. After the first 2 I setup decoy cameras with other cameras watching them 10-12 feet up in the trees and nobody took the bait. Go figure.
An acquaintance of mine told me last year that he came across my stand in the woods and he was about to steal it until he saw my name on it. I'm glad he didn't take it but I instantly lost respect for him as well.
The worst part is if you plan on hunting that spot, its going to make alot more work. Carry stands and everything else in and out or risk theft again.
