Get a stand all hung in the tree and you spot a better one from the top? Happened to me today, an entire hour wasted. Hanging tree stands is hard work when your old and fat!
hahaha...happened to me quite a few times.. and sadly enough, I actually tried convincing myself to NOT move because I am fat old AND lazy!!
Ha I walk around in circles looking around too long for it to happen to much. Although last year I had a spot all picked out for a new ladder stand I got. Couple days earlier I had watched a nice mature buck walk off the field in this spot. Went to put up stand couldn't get chainsaw started to cut down couple small trees, so found a different spot and the first time sat in stand watched the same nice buck walk within what woulda been a 15 yard shot. Only problem was it was about 60 yards from the new spot. Ever since then I've always went with my first instict on where to put stand up and don't worry bout moving it if I see what may be a better spot. Good luck though and its good to know I'm not the only one who does that.
HAHA. I have done it a few times. I think I have a harder time picking what tree to hang the stand in. "That one looks good, wait its leaning, what about that one over there? No, I think this one has better more shooting lanes, and will require less trimming" My hunting buddy and I will sit there for 30 minutes going back and forth what tree we like better.
I am terrible about picking trees because first I am indecisive a second because because I always find a better one after the stand is set up. . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'd say probably about 50percent of the time. It seems like I never pick the right tree the first time
If I am running and gunning I will spend as much time as I need picking a good stand. I would lose a half hour or so hunting by taking my time picking a stand than just putting up a stand and hoping.
I hunt mainly out of a climber because most of our trees allow it here. I always find a better tree once I get up in the one I'm in. Depending on the situation, I'll usually commit myself to sit out the day in a stand, but you better believe i'll be in a different tree the next sit. Also helps keep the deer on their toes to which tree I'm in.
This topic is actually very funny to me. Imagine a whole bunch of guys scratching there head in one tree looking at the other....I do ALOT of that on the ground befor I go up up up. But id say once or twice ive come back down just to go back up elsewhere. pfft.
Ok so I am not crazy. I have move one stand 3 times in 2 years and it hasn't move more then 20 yards total. LOL!
