Hey guys, brand new to bowhunting and will be going out for the 1st time this season.

I was looking at threads here about stands and then found one talking about blinds. I did some reading about the pros and cons of both... it seems like a blind would be a safer, more comfortable option, which means I'd probably be more inclined to stay out longer. That being said I know stands are a lot more popular and Im sure they'd give me a wider area of observation.

Anyone else made the switch from stands to blinds?

Do you guys think either way would be more advantageous to a new hunter?

If you are hunting public land hunt in a stand. if private you want to have the blind out for a couple weeks for deer to get used to them otherwise they will look at you then run

I'd stay start out with a stand. Get a ladder stand. They're very easy to set up and probably the safest ones.

I would go with stand just way better imo I feel like I'm missing out on so much when I'm in a blind...

honestly I like both depending on where I am hunting. I love my ladder stands but I tend to take my boys with me and since they are pretty young, a blind covers a lot.

I started out few years ago hunting pulic land with a ground blind. Although i had some activity it wasn't anywhere close to the amount I was able to see from a stand. I would go stand if possible.

I think I asked the same exact question last year. I started out with a climber, and I would recommend the same. I feel it really put me in the game a whole lot more than a blind would've.

My family and I have about one blind for every 10 treestands. I like the blinds for gun season or turkey hunting. As far as bow hunting for deer, it just doesn't feel right to me. With that said there are a lot of people that prefer them and they are successful.

I agree with this, a climber would be great to start out with. That way you can go as high as you feel comfortable with and you will still have the advantages of a tree stand. Good luck this year!

I would go with stands anytime there are usable trees available to hunt out of.
If trees are scarce or you need to set up in a place where stands could not be used, ground blinds would be an alternative.

I might as well jump in here with my first post.
I believe that if you can leave a ground blind out to let the deer get used to it they can be very effective. I've killed several deer from the ground. If its legal in your state to feed deer to get them coming around your blind, even better. However,if you cant leave your blind out then a tree stand of some kind will be the way to go.

I like being in a treestand because you can see so much more. That being said, it can be miserable in a tree if it is overly windy or the weather is bad, which is the time to be in a blind. Luckily on the private land I hunt theft is not an issue so I can have a few of both.

I'll only use a blind when a tree stand is not a option or I am with one of my youngsters.

I tried a blind for the first time last season. I have a few great spots that don't have any good trees for a stand so I figured I'd give the ground blind a shot. Seemed to work alright , but it didn't feel quite right for me and your shots and field of view seem to be a little less

Tree stand, hands down. I rarely use a blind, when I do its due to lack of trees and I try to set the blind in a high spot. I have some permanent blinds set up that I love but I believe you're talking about pop-up blinds. Mine are more like a tree stand, small cabin on 12' poles (elevated permanent blinds) Which I would sy are the cadies of hunting and almost cheating but those mornings of 15F I'd be drinking coffee at home otherwise, lol.

I hunt public land and it's a hike to any trees, so I'm sticking to the spot and stalk method. Haven't seen anything yet, so I don't know how good it is or I am at it.

thanks everyone. I'll be hunting on public land and from the research ive done, a blind is really only effective when it can be left out so the animals become accustomed to it. I'll be looking into getting a stand for sure. thanks!
