    Hi all,

Let me speak frankly: I know next to nothing about archery or bowhunting. I need your help!

That being said, my girlfriend is very interested in the archery and bowhunting scene and I'd like to surprise her with a nice bow and perhaps a few arrows and any other necessary equipment to get her started.

My girlfriend is of small stature-- a few inches under 5 feet tall-- so I thought maybe a youth bow or something? Though she is short, she's not a weakling.

Anyway, I really would appreciate your help in selecting a good starter kit for her that's within reason for my budget-- say under $500 total? Something that maybe she can learn on and build from, and it would be great if it was a decent hunting bow since boar hunting is ultimately what she wants to do with her skills once she's acquired them.

Thanks for your help everyone! :)

As far as the bows go any of them suggested will work for her. I suggest that you take her down to a local archery shop and get her measured for draw length to get specifics but let her shoot a few bows and let her decide what feels good to her. After she shoots a few she will start to get a feel of what she likes and doesn't.

Got my wife shooting and she loves it! Picked up a Browning Micro adrenaline and its perfect for her. 30 to 60 lb draw so she can increase it as she learns. Have fun!

You have gotten some good feedback here looks like. I'm only four foot seven and 73 pounds so I can relate. We lucked out and found a Pro-line youth bow at a yard sale for $20 for me, 30 pound draw. I've taken three deer with it.

I do have one suggestion though. There is no minimum draw weight in Michigan, but you may want to check the rules in your state.

You might check out the Diamond Infinity Edge if you are interested in a compound bow. It has binary cams that reduce recoil and is adjustable to the extreme (draw weight 5 to 70 lbs., draw length 13 to 30 inches). It is a bow she won't outgrow quickly and comes in ready to hunt packages with everything you need including arrows for as low as $447. My wife (4'8") shoots one and loves it.

Look at the diamond infinite edge and the mission craze. Both great bows that will grow with her.
