Is it advisable to shoot the Sage off the shelf?

    Im new to traditional archery.
just got the sage in 45lbs.
can draw it back and shoot without much effort.
it came with a carter rest but the adhesive came off the same night.
is the learning curve much harder when shooting off the shelf?

I find it easier to shoot off the shelf. The arrow is closer to your hand which seems to help. I shoot my Samick Red Stag off the shelf and most of my other traditional bows. The Bear rug rest works great as does the fuzzy component of velcro. By placing a piece of leather boot lace under the shelf material, you can actually get a little better vance clearance making arrow flight a bit better in some cases. With that said, shooting off the shelf is less forgiving of using correct arrow spine.

    thanks for the reply
i put some soft velcro on and it shoots amazing for the money.
now i need to learn form.
i was playing around with draw hand orientation split finger or three under and i really started grouping well with three under using the gapping method.
im going to try and find an instructor to teach me the basics.

There are some great clinics throughout the country top names like Welsh and Rod Jenkins as instructors. I took a 2 day clinic to begin a foundation based on form and I continue to build from. I too have a local coach I meet with and instruction from good forum posts Masters of the Bare Bow III and Rick Welch Vol II. J Blackmon and MoBow from You tube are great resources also.

Rod is an excellent coach and I can highly recommend his program.

Just a side note on your limbs; are you willing to go lighter? Say #30 limbs to until you get your form down

try lancaster archery or 3rivers archery, you can probably find the limbs on those sights.
