Just wondering how big the divide is between guys (and gals) on here that would consider themselves a trophy hunter vs. a meat-in-the-freezer kind of hunter?

I'll probably be more of the meat for freezer type, not to fond of keeping a huge animal head.

Both. We don't buy meat, so if we want it, we hunt or fish for it. However, I will pass on small bucks especially if I know of particular buck I'm after.

I would say both but meat in the freezer is priority number 1

Last year was hurting for meat, so took a doe kind of early filled my freezer but ended my season kind of early. This year I might wait for something to mount on the wall depending on how low the freezer is before the season starts.

meat, if it has a rack its a secondary consideration. I get six doe tags a year so primarly hunt does the two buck tags are bonus as far as I am concerned

I'm a trophy guy, I won't shoot a buck that's not sporting large headgear or is mature. I do shoot does for meat though.

Probably bow hunt more for trophy and if need meat jus wait till gun seaon to roll around. Will say most of my focus is on trophy jus because I've never put one down that's anywhere close to a trophy. Got a pretty good population of deer in my area tho so if it came down to needing meat could pretty easily take one during gun season.

I only shoot a buck if it is what I consider to be a mature or trophy type animal. But, I always shoot a few does for meat and get a huge thrill out of doing it. If you made me choose one or the other, I would be a trophy hunter.

I hunt to hunt. My family doesn't use the meat but we make sure someone does. First deer goes to processor and the meat goes to the land owners that let me hunt. Any more I am lucky enough to get tags for will go to the local food bank. If I get pics of a good buck I try to hunt that one but priority is to keep the landowners happy.

I also consider myself both. I want to shoot a mature buck but I love venison and so does my family. I will shoot a number of does to make sure we have enough venison for the year.

I do both! I will fill my doe tags first and then try to shoot some nice bucks. I will take a average buck if he does not really show any improvement over the years of seeing him. After that I am out for a wall hanger until it gets to close to season end. Then I will take another doe if possible.

I usually try to smoke a couple doe early, an then become very picky.

This will tell you what I do! Out of the 33 deer I have killed since I started hunting only 9 of them have had antlers on them! I have killed some button bucks not knowing at the time of shot. So you can see I am a Slick Head Killer! LOL

same here, ill pass on a trophy for meat generally. If im hunting with a trophy mad mate, then ill let him take that and ill go for the meat.
