Well guys I lost the property I have been hunting for 7 years because the land owner is leasing it to a cattle farmer that does not want people hunting on the property. So I will be braving the crowds on public land. Never really hunted public land for turkeys so hopefully I can still get it done. Hope all you guys have been doing well and have a good season. Nice bird Tacklebox and sorry for the losses bloodcrick
Guys, I'll be headed out in the morning. I have been hearing them sound off in the mornings on my property. I know where they are so I'm hoping I can locate and set up tonight and shank one in the Morning. Opening turkey morning is starting to get me going as much as opening morning of deer season. Man I can't wait!!
I'll be back out this evening to tuck em in... Hopefully tomorrow mornin I'll be posting another bird.
Guys, I had one of the best hunts I have ever had, without killing that is. Finally seen hens and heard them yelp for the first time. Had one young hen come out and cross in front of us an 30-40 mine later had another. While the second two were still crossing the field had 2 deer about 50yd in front of us. They turned and went the other way. Pretty sure they winded us. We weren't practicing scent free very well. About 30 min later had 4 more deer in the field north of us for a few minutes. Gobbling in all directions the whole morning. We had one hang up on a ridge on the other side of a branch and decided to close the gap. On the way we ran across 4 more deer then got a little to close to the bird we were chasing. Ended up seeing him at 15yd, neither of us ready to pop him. He saw us before we could move at all and hit the tree tops. I it was squirrel season we could have killed 30 of those jokers. It was an awesome morning in the woods to say the least. I'll be back at it this Thursday and setting up a little closer this time. I have to go grab a blind from a buddy though. Man I wish Turkey season was longer!
Great hunt stick, keep at it man. Im still waiting on the 24th for my opener, took 7 days off work to hunt my nards off. I have been scouting and have built 6 brush blinds so far. Been seeing birds but the numbers still havent recovered yet from the drought 2 years ago.
24th will be here in no time at all Crick! Good luck to ya, looks like the weather is gonna cooperate for me this weekend so with a lil luck I will hopefully get my second tag filled!!
Struggling here, thunderstorms yesterday morn kept me in till 10:30 seen 2 hens and a Tom while walking out after sitting 7 hrs. Tight liped this morn, have heard nothing
Good luck Crick! Last weekend was a no go for me with sick kids and a wife I had to stay home. BUT, everyone is well now and the weather looks rockin for the weekend!!
Got on plenty of birds this morning but wasn't able to seal the deal. Hopefully I can sneak out this evening and intercept them on their way to roost.
Had an awesome day goin from sun up till 1:00 had a bird comin but had 2 road hunt trespassers screw it up
Well guys I tagged out this morning but took my second bird with the ol thunder stick so my first entry will stand. How's everybody else doin?
Still here man and unfortuanatly done I did shoot a bird today but it was a 36 yard shot, I waited 3 hours as I felt shot was marginal. I found it tucked in a very large blow down after an hour of looking, I was 10 yards away and didn't do a follow up shot cause I thought it was dead. I took one more step and it jumped up and weaved through the blow down. I couldn't get around the downed tree fast enough to see where it went. I looked for another hour and couldn't find it. Guys I hunted HARD and im wore out. Sorry I couldn't get it done
Hey man sorry to hear that but it happens to everyone! Hope you still had some enjoyable time in the field! This won't be the first time I beat you.... G2G
