I got my first recurve yesterday, its a 30year old Bear Kodiak Hunter, 60" 50#. I really enjoy shooting this bow, its challenging but definitely fun!. I have some work to do as far as cleaning it up, and i might put some new laquer on it to restore it with a more glossy finish. Right now i am shooting a 430gr Easton Axis 340 out of it, not perfect spine but they seem to fly decent so far. Cant wait to get out after some pest birds this summer, with some more practice those starlings wont stand a chance!
It's sure one beautiful looking bow you got there, I am interested in getting the PSE Coyote; is pulling 50# on the recurve harder than 70# on a compound?
Root, I used to shoot traditional until about 5 years ago and shot a 60lb Bear Kodiak. In my opinion pulling the 50lb bow will be easier but shooting the 70lb compound accurately will be much easier. With the let off of todays compounds they are easier to shoot. Scoot
I shoot 65lbs with both my compounds very easily. This bow is a 50lb @ 28" but at my 31" draw length its more like 58lbs. I have no trouble shooting it whatsoever. It is easy for me to draw and i can hold it back for a few seconds if i had to, but i usually hit full draw and hold for maybe a second before releasing. I would say you wouldnt have too much trouble drawing a 50lb recurve.
Thanks for the information; question when hunting with traditional are you estimating distance when you shoot or is it pull back line the arrow to the target and see if it makes the hit? Best yardage to hunt at with a recurve would be 10 yards or could you accurately place a shot on the target at 20 yards? I know the best way to learn is with experience but I do have to say traditional archery seems very interesting to me. Thanks again for filling me in with the information.
Instinctive shooting is one of those things that is very hard to describe. I personally dont "aim" or line up the arrow or anything like that, whether shooting my recurve or bowfishing bows. I draw and focus my attention on the spot that i want to hit and then release. I havnt shot the recurve in the past two days, because i broke my arrow after shooting an empty shotgun shell at 20yds. I gave myself something small to focus on and ended up nailing it after 3 shots and snapped my only feathered arrow off 2" from the tip. Hunting accuracy at 20yds is completely possible with practice, i will be shooting small birds and pests with it this summer to practice varying distance shots. I plan on getting enough practice to take this bow out on a deer hunt this year
Agree with you guys these points are right in practical and helps us a lot. I have read some interesting news about the topic and also read about insects and pests here. Some of these pests are very harmful and dangerous for us.We should safe our self and others from these. What you think about it.
