I honestly had 5 around me one hunt just in my immediate 40 yard area. They take over the area they are though sadly...they're more aggressive than the grays or browns...and rumored to birth their young in others nests only to abandon them for the nest's owner to raise them. I shoot them whenever possible in season unless buck hunting during deer season...little boogers are everywhere it seems on some properties.

Interesting. I wonder why they are so prevalent in northern Indiana, but I have never seen one in southern Indiana.

It's not uncommon to see them in NY.

I shot one in Louisiana once. That is the only one I have ever seen, except for black fox squirrels which I do see from time to time. A lot of old timers call the black phase gray squirrels "cat" squirrels.

In Marquette County (WI) it is common to have blck squirrels, albinos, reds and greys under the feeder at the same time.

Them are some mean S.O.B's, they'll fight any other squirrell or chipmunk that comes up to em at my feeder.

I see a ton of those in Northern IL where I live. Starting to see more of them then regular brown squirrels.
