Pulled two tick off of me this weekend and my buddy had 6, and he was on antibiotics already for some ticks bites the week before.

What do you guys do to keep the ticks off of you and out of stuff?

This may sound weird but I welcome the tick season. Not being able to go into the woods without snow shoes is really getting old. Off the soap box.............

Use Permethrin on your clothes. Sawyer makes a good product.

I agree with Brad, minus the snow stuff. I live in Georgia so I know nothing about snow. Permethrin is good stuff. :tu:

    Sulphur

Pick it up at a feed store, put it in an old sock. Dust your clothes with it before heading afield. It also discourages fleas and chiggers. Be thorough at the cuff of your pants, and around the waistband. We always kept the sock in a coffee can, and it stayed behind the seat of the pickup, and another under the sink in the kitchen, so it was always there when we went out anywhere.

It is safe to use on your pets as well

There are some who recommend ingesting a little sulphur as a preventative to keep critters from biting, I never have tried it that way though. Mixing it with honey, molasses or sorghum is one suggestion.

Thanks guys. I've been using Sawyers myself and so these are my first ticks.
Guess it time to re-treat my cloths.

I was going to spray the carpet in my Suburban and tent as well.

What else do you guys do or practices you make?

    Tuck pants in socks?

I double up, use a product with permethrin to treat clothing then use a product by "bugband" on the skin. Smells like lemon and contains geraniol which is a natural oil safe for skin. Has worked for me...I hate ticks!

Brushed about 20 off my pants last week while shed hunting. I use the product pictured above (not last week) and it works pretty well. I also wear gaiters to keep my pant cuff sealed off over my boots.

I also make sure I shower soon after getting out of the woods.

Keeping those pant legs taped down really helps whatever else you choose.

I'm wearing rubber snake boots. Shouldn't that do the trick?

Probably but I still put a wrap of electrical tape around mine. It helps keep my socks up too.

Sulphur alone has really no smell. It is a naturally occurring element.

Sulphur compounds are stinky, and if it burns you know it.

When I was working as a wildland firefighter I treated my clothes with Saywer Permethrin too. Works great and lasts a long time. For my own time when I was employed and now that I am retired I either treat cloths with Sawyer or I use clothes called Elimitick by Gamehide. The treatment on these last for about 70 washings. Camo or solid patterns.
Since using these things no ticks in two years. Before that it was unreal how many I would have each day. I have had Erlichiosis once and Lyme disease three times. Anitbiotics knocked it out but I still have days with some relapse. You truly are never over it once you have Lyme disease.

I'm a Sawyer guy here too. However, I must not have done a good enough job last spring as I ended up getting Lymes disease. Of course, nothing is full proof and its just the chance you take.

All I can say to everyone is be diligent with checking yourself. If you get a tick in you and pull it out, keep a close eye on the bite area. If you have any suspicion something is off with yourself, get to a doctor. I did not find a tick in me, I just started feeling like crap all the time and my elbow swelled up. No bulls eye, no tick, nothing. Blood work came back positive for Lymes and I was on the nasty anti-biotic for it for a month. It's no picnic and nothing to play around with.

I'm hoping the cold winter we had this year knocks them down. Where I hunt, its polluted with them.
