what hunting do you like to do the most for me it is 1 duck hunting 2 goose hunting 3 any kind of bow hunting 4 crows
Deer Turkey Predator Fowl Used to hunt a lot of pheasant but they have been awful thin the last few years Also bear and elk as often as possible
Deer Turkey Waterfowl Upland birds Predators I'm hoping to add mulies, antelope, and elk to that list starting this year
Well all I really do is deer...so I guess that lol. We dont have a lot of other things going on here. Im sure there are some pa duck and goose hunters, but I never knew any. I do very little small game but thats not an option in your list lol. We have bear but odds are low, especially for a bow hunter. And the turkey hunting is pretty darn good, but Im no good at it. I shoot a lot of crows...but I dont think out of the bedroom window counts as hunting.
My number 1 changes by the day. After I shoot a deer, deer is number 1, but after we tag out goose hunting, that becomes number one. So I'll call 1st place a tie. 1. Goose / deer(Bowhunting) 3. Predator / varmint 4. Deer (rifle hunting) 5. Pheasant / grouse
Hey Jeff, how are the upland numbers down your way this year? I haven't done any upland hunting this year, my pheasant and quail numbers are hurtin bad. My prairie chickens however seem to be on the rebound.
Our quail have enjoyed the drought the past 2 years and done well. Most of our CRP is holding coveys of 8-12 birds where 3 years ago we weren't seeing any. Out west in Gove county south of Quinter where we do our pheasant hunting 6 of us shot limits on a two day hunt and picked up a few quail in there as well. It's not South Dakota conditions by any means, but there's definitely birds to be killed. We've got family with a lot land down near Wellington and were there last weekend for an NWTF banquet and saw gobs of roosters. About 30 skirting the edge of one particular hedge row. I may have to go there next season, it's a lot closer than Quinter haha!
Man I am jealous I have one covey of maybe 8-10 birds between my two properties. I have seen maybe 6 roosters here all year it's crazy! I am pretty stoked about my chicken numbers though, I have a flock of bout 20 that I see regularly. I'm up near Marion and the last few years around here the pheasants have really been gettin thin
That's awesome y'all are seeing the chickens tho! They're pretty rare over here in Woodson county, I've only seen one. Hopefully the pheasant numbers will start to bounce back for you. If not the local fish cops here (and take this for what it's worth) said the further north and west you can get, the better the rooster populations are in Kansas. I've personally never hunted up there, but I'd go back to Quinter in a hurry!
