thing to remember is most people who run trap lines check them at least once a day, I check mine both morning and night when I have traps out. its not like they spend days out there hung up
Yes, he actually put the traps out the night before he found this guy. He checked the traps agian when he got home from school today as well. He is trying to slim down the coyote population as quickly as possible. He has only had them out for 2 days so far.
I think it's ill advised to bash each others particular outdoor pursuit. There are a lot of folks who want to put an end to all hunting/trapping/fishing. We need to stick together.
Congrats to him on the first yote! I support anyone who's in to managing their land to improve the quality of life for desirable species like deer, turkey, and other small game. I've got a similar mission where I hunt, only instead of using traps it's a foxpro and remington 22-250 sps varmint.
Looks like a good sized Yote, 1 down is a good start. I am also going to try the fox pro method, except I'll have to use the 30-06 as I cant afford a special gun for yotes at this time.
I have wanted to learn more about trapping. I have no experience at all in this area. Does anyone know of a good book to learn? I would probably only be interested in trapping yotes.
What do you all do with the coyotes you kill or trap? Do you tan the hides, or have you taxi do it? I was just wondering, because I have heard of some people trapping/shooting them and then throw them over the hill.
all the coyotes I kill during the winter get skinned and the skins sold raw. during the summer they are just shot and the bodies used as bait for other coyotes guess I should clarify after you find a calf or two all torn up you tend to take it personaly
I'm not the first to say this I'm sure, but last time I checked those traps are not hurting the animal any.
Anything by Clint Locklear is awesome. He owns the predator control group and has a line of books and dvd's that are all great and super informative. He's also got his own YouTube channel with a bunch of videos and he has a podcast that he puts there too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice yote! I tried trapping with a friend this year and only got a squirrel. It's a lot harder than it looks and kudos to anyone who can get a coyote! Most of the time the traps don't even hurt the animal unless the snare gets that animal perfectly. Our bird dog was trapped in a foot trap for about an hour and didn't make a noise. He sat down perfectly fine and when we found him he just went along with his normality and started running again.
I totally agree with this post and the post by Ryguy3684, never understand the reasoning behind taking pics of a animal that's suffering...do it respect and justice and kill it 1st then take all the pics you want......and I do agree with trapping but after it's dead take the pic!!!!! just my 2 cents though
Congrats to him, keep up the good work. If he was in NY i would direct him to a few of my properties and he would be welcome to trap them all.
