The video clearly shows that he had a semi auto SHOTGUN in the car, the report also says the found two guns on the body (confirmed as a Sig Saur 9mm and a Glock 9mm) So the big bad black "assault weapon" was never even on the scene. but you can't ban "assault weapons" without public outrage.
I can't say one way or the other, but there was a lot of bad information with the "you heard it here first" race. They said his mom was a teacher that was not true. At one point they identified him as his brother. I thought the first real time a long gun was mentioned in the shooting itself was when the coroner was talking and he said the wounds were all from the long gun or rifle, forget his actual wording. Before that all we're reporting 2 handguns on him and a rifle and shotgun in the trunk.

I believe the initial reports way more then once the spin doctors got a hold of the story. And the anti firearms (anti rights) people are sure not being silent about how they feel. why should the pro firearms (pro rights) people be?

the initial reports are that handguns are what was used,any officer would know what the casings are at one glance. those are the officers I believe. before the politics got involved.
^ this. Every conspiracy theory I've read on this event have centered around random news reports trying to spew out information before anything is ever fact checked. There are 5 guys. Wait just 1. He is John smith. Wait no Jim Smith. But I haven't found anything on the fact that Newtown used the same style guns as Aurora. Two pistols, an AR and a shotgun in the car.
The video with the shotgun proves only one thing. It was left in the car and did not kill any children. The first reports I heard indicated a Bushmaster AR. And it seems that the police confirmed it later in their reports. You dont have to like it, but it's hard to ignore. There will be restrictive legislation in the near future. Right or wrong, it will come.
Show me a video of a actual officer at the scene reporting this. And not some talking head saying they heard or it is reported as...

All the press briefings by law enforcement I had seen the day of would not comment on anything with the investigation. Any time they were asked about weapons they would not comment. The first comment I seen that was publicly made was by the coroner when he let some detailing words out that made me cringe, but said that all the wounds were consistent with the long rifle. That was the first report of a long gun being used that I see that was not reported by the media. Everything up to that point, just as the misinformation being reported, was speculation on news reporters and network commentators trying to be the first to report. Do I trust our government? Not really. But I trust them just about as much as I trust our news media. In the grand scheme of things the gun style or maker is not of issue. The issue lies in a mentally disturbed individual who acquired a gun. But the focus is not on mental illness. Nothing about gun make, model or caliber is going to change the lawmakers intent on what weapons they want to keep from being sold. No conspiracy will change or add to that, it has and always will be on semi-automatic rifles/guns and what they deem as high capacity magazines.

I find it pathetic and telling that the news crew couldn't even find a photo of a Bushmaster AR15. That thing they show might have been made by Bushmaster (a looong time ago)... but it's not an AR. The media and the gun grabbers have no idea what they're talking about but by golly, they're gonna get your guns!
