I choke!!! Finally after logging more hours in a stand this year than the last two combined it comes together on a heavy 8 on a new piece of ground I got in December. Saw this buck on my first sit on the property December 15. Tonight I had 6 does come charging in and stop 40 yds away. They kept looking behind them. I figured it was a coyote. But to my surprise this buck comes out of the field and follows the does right down from me and they all begin feeding. The does keep moving west but he veers back to the north toward where he came from and presented me a shot at 26 yds. I had one opening through the tight cluster of saplings and I settled my pin and released. As soon as I did whack! I watched in dismay as my arrow glanced off the sapling and right next to the buck. The does and the buck ran about 40 yds and stopped and all began feeding again. 20 minute later something spooked a doe out into the field and I watched 18 does run for the hills to the north shortly followed by the buck I cleanly missed. Wondering if should head back in the morning or let it rest. After tonight I am definitely ready to shoot some geese. Haha. Just thankful for the hunt I had tonight even with the miss.

I would agree with the above. you didnt spook them too bad if they went back to feeding. It sounds to me like he is still a killable whitetail.

Yeah. I would go after him again. How longs your goose season run? I went out Friday evening and limited out on geese. Got 3 mallards and 1 black Saturday. Yesterday me and my father both limited out on mallards and I shot 1 black. We are finally starting to see more migratory birds here in wv.

Stay on him! I don't know when your season ends but it can't be open much longer.

Dogfish my season ends the 31st for geese. Ducks went out on Christmas and the mallards just showed up this week. Imagine that! Good to hear you're putting some birds down. Our deer season goes out the 20th. Next day I can go is this weekend. But I'm gonna let my dad hunt my stand Friday afternoon. I hope he nails him!! What a story that would be...he kills the deer I miss!!! I can only hope he does.
