Heeeeeeeyyyyyy!!!! nothing wrong with a retired LEO working the halls and flirting with the lunch lady, and if he wants to carry an AR or Ak I'm sure some schools would welcome it. If not go totally concealed. As far as responsibility on the teachers I get the point, but most the guys and gals are voluntarily carrying and I'm sure in their mind failure is not an option.
Imo, knowing they are not gun free zones is paramount. Being killed on the way in would kill their thunder(pun intended )and there would be no shock value. This eliminates the reason why they do it in the first place. Again, just my opinion. They will revert back to shooting themselves in their rooms. Or going to the mall, where the sane needs to be done. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Why retired? Why not active officers. I am Sure there are plenty of applicants to be LEO's out there. This is an area where I am all for increased spending by the feds. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
To answer the question, I personally want them there at all times and seen. Maybe have 1 that isn't seen in plain clothes. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Ok, all opinions aside, can we stop using "clip" and "magazine" interchangeably? The popular opinion is that they are the same, but in all actuality, they are VERY different.
Whats not real about it, in my little town of 10,000 we have a school resource officer that spends his days at the High School, and yes he is packing and in uniform. Maybe I am bias because I have served two tours in the Middle East, and I'm all about armed security when the situation calls for it. Have I seen big guns detour and diminish a hostile intention without a shot being fired? You bet I have. Sometimes there don't have to be a firefight if the other side, or the crazes know that someone is willing to shoot back.
I totally agree there are a few Teachers that probably should not carry a gun do to the shaky hand, or the Barney Fife syndrome, that within itself could be an Epic Fail. If there prior military or trained in the use of a firearm, retired police something like that I say why not.
What about the stress on the kids in the class? How will 6,7,8 year olds handle a gun in the class room Really, if we cannot have our schools be safe for our kids, shame on us.
If it is legal and it is in some schools it is obviously not enforced upon the teacher. Only teachers with a desire to carry, who have proper documentation and seek training regularly (regulated by the community or state) should carry. Just people knowing some teacher could be carrying and ready if need arises would deter some crazies. Oh and you make it 100% mandatory that the teachers keep them concealed to lessen this "so called" stress upon children with a gun in the classroom you speak of.
That Sir, is a good point. My two youngest boys are in first and second grade, of course they are used to guns and used to seeing guns. They are also used to seeing and shooting Bow and Arrow, we do live in a very country setting. But, I think it would stress them out going to school knowing the teacher is packing, because they know why Cops, or military carry Guns, too shoot the bad guys, Right; so I'm sure that would add some confusion, and stress, and they would have questions. In NO way do I want them growing up in a "Madd Max" environment. At the same time I would want someone there that could defend them little ones if all hell breaks loose. But, yes shame on us as a society, we can do better, like the coach said It's time to step up.
I am wondering why schools can't have some version of a system like banks have which lock the doors on a robber as he tries to leave. The kids would come into the school and simply pass their bags through a conveyor set to alarm for weapons. Then they walk through the doors which lock a turnstyle automatically if metal is detected. I know there would be a lot of bugs to work out but we have the technology to easily do this. Yes it would be expensive, but not compared to paying fulltime policemen to be at the school fulltime. They have a similar system at most hospital ERs. Arming teachers isn't the answer IMO, disarming criminals is. Disarming America is certainly not the answer.
Did you actually think that was a good comparison when you typed it out? Good to see you guys can have a 20 page conversation can keep it civil. There is hope after all.
