While the owner was showing me the layout of the land, he told me he had a poacher/trespasser on his property near the southern border. He said he has never seen the guy, but knows where his stand is located. He said I can hande it the best way I see fit. I was thinking about hanging an infared trail cam in the area of the stand to see who it is.

The person is trespassing, take the stand, post a private property sign on the tree with a number. They will not come back nor try to get the stand back.

Sounds like to me you got a free treestand. I would also leave a nice warm welcoming note where his treestand was.

I've had this problem on property that I have permission to, we left a note with a number on the stand that I pulled out of the tree but the guy had permission when the previous owner was in charge some 3 years ago and thought he could run the place so he put it back up with a bait pile this time (in MN thats illegal) that's when I yanked the stand and left it by the house and met the guy at his truck next time he showed up to have a little talk and now we are problem free

I would just be polite about it. Maybe it's just a mistake/misunderstanding about property lines/ownership.

I have had a similar incedent and took the stand down, left it at the bottom of the tree with a note. Next time I came back, the stand was gone and never had a problem again.

    Sounds like a good plan.

Take the stand down, put it on the ground near the tree, then cut the tree down on top of the stand......just sayin, he wouldn't be using it anymore LOL

I always try to be civil when possible, but sometimes you can take it and hope that you're done with it.
