These two are related. This morning I was rattling and before I could finish my sequence, a whole flock of hens came running my way. They were in a pine thicket and I didn't realize it. This has to be the 3rd time I've had turkeys show up immediately or shortly after I've rattled. Anyone else experience this? My brother shot a hen the other evening shortly after he rattled. I wonder what the attraction is? Now to the broadhead vs rock matchup. Once they were in range, I attempted my 2nd turkey head shot and I'm 0 for 2 this season. Not fond of body shots so I tried the "all or nothing" and got nothing again. Upon hitting this buried rock, I lost one vane, my nokturnal and well, you see the damage to the head.
I did the same thing to a thunderhead last week. Sucked because I put a new head on it and spun test it and it turns out it ruined my arrow too. Even with new broadhead it wobbled like crazy. Did you check that arrow?
You know thats funny...I rattled the other day and joked with my buddy through text when he asked how my hunt was goin that I rattled in some turkey. They showed up only a couple minutes after I did. Figured it was just coincident...
Ihad one fly up into the tree to roost right in front of me. I let temptation get the best of me. I lost a new arrow, thunderhead, and nocturnal stuck up in the tree 4 inches above his head. But what makes me the maddest is afterwards, I realized I didnt even aim!
I may rethink my strategy but I will prevail! It's getting refletched as we speak. All the arrows I carry in my quiver are each shot with BH I know is good. That way, no question about the BH or arrow. Cmonsta: I really think there's something to rattling in birds.
If you take the arrow that you hit the rock with, put in a new broadhead and then set the tip in your palm and spin the arrow you might feel some wobble. Thats what happened to my arrow. I think the shaft gets messed up or something. Not sure if you knew what I meant. Try it out and then try a different arrow.
Yes sir, I knew what you meant. I do spin test my arrows and then proceed to shoot each one that goes in the quiver. A little overkill I know but that's how I roll. Builds confidence too.
That's crazy... On a side note, I couldn't get over the buck roar after hearing you use it last season, So I picked one up yesterday, set it to Mature buck and let out a few aggressive tones this evening.... Had a doe come in on a B-line probably 10sec after I grunted, she was looking everywhere, and then went on her way... I thought maybe she was being chased, but never seen nor heard another deer, I wonder if I threw my "voice" and she thought she had one chasing her... :D So if you can grunt in some does, why not rattle in some turkeys?
Had same thing happen last weekend with the Buckroar. Had a smaller buck to my left 75 yards going away. I grunted and the buck kept going, but two does got up to my right and came right in within 3-4 minutes. One is in my freezer!
Rattling turkeys in is a farce. I've rattled alot over the years and never had turkeys run in. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Course there aren't any turkeys here so that might have had something to do with it !! :p Tim
Twilcox...you reminded me of something. I rattled in a coyote one time. Not a close encounter, i saw him/her for a split second and it vanished. Curious I reckon.
