what type of buck do you shoot? a mature deer 5+yr old?or go by rack size?

I shoot my bucks and does by the maturity of the deer. S1440001.jpg S1470002.jpg S1480001.jpg S1480015.jpg S1480016.jpg

I shoot my bow for meat - but if a nice rack walks through, it's got meat beneath and behind it that'll make good roasts, sausage and brats...I prefer to eat the 1.5 to 2.5 year olds myself and usually get a couple does in the freezer before I restrict myself to looking for big horns.

I try for a mature buck 3 years or older. I have already passed on 3 younger bucks this season. I just don't want bow season to be over to soon!

Doe is a doe to me. As far as bucks are concerned, whatever makes me pick my bow up off the bow hook gets it. I never know what deer I want until I see it.

Any doe that's not too small gets an arrow. Any mature buck over 140" gets it, and really any buck over 160" get it

130 in bucks and up, usually leave the does alone being that not many deer are on my hunting ground.

Any buck that makes me get my bow out and doesn't make me think twice about shooting him is a shooter to me. My deer this year will probably only score to 110 or 115 but I thought he was a monster and I was/am happy. As far as does go I just make sure they aren't yearlings.

In RI there are no restrictions on bucks as there is in my home state and hunting grounds in PA. There u can only take a buck with at least 3 points on one side or more. So I obviously go by that rule when hunting PA but in RI I will take the first buck that presents a good shot to me(besides a button buck). This is my first year bowhunting so I'm def not gonna be picky yet. Gotta get that first bow buck in the books. :)
