I like to try new stuff in the rain, like sitting on the ground or using a different stand because the rain will cover your scent. The only downfall is loss of a blood trail.

Activity wise, I dont think it changes much, unless it is like gale force winds to go with it.

if you have 8 days till you leave then get out there and hunt!!!!! ive actually had good luck as well, but track jobs can be a bit more difficult. i would also add probably dont take marginal shots that could cause bad arrow placement your going to need a good blood trail.

I've seen a lot of deer in the rain. I like to hunt in it because i can get to my stand quietly and my scent usually isn't an issue.

Last week I decided to do a half day afternoon sit after spotting 5 bucks the day before. It was a light wind day with a steady rain a little bit more then a drizzle. Had plenty of action but they were just to far off!

For the many reasons mentioned above, I love hunting the rain. Days where it's just drizzling with little wind are the best.

One thing with rain you need to remember is it can create a downward mushroom cloud of scent...especially of next to no wind is present (light and variable).

Depends on how heavy the rain is, a buddy of mine last year had a spike he was watching and it started to rain a little harder, and he stopped right where he was and bedded downs until the rain let up.

    Never Again with a Bow.

Sorry guys but I have shot a couple of whitetails during light rain and had really tough tracking jobs. I recovered a nice nine point after a sleepless night but a doe that I hit was never recovered. I saw where the arrow went and it was a good hit but was a little high which usually doesn't leave a lot of blood anyway. I might bust one with my rifle but no more bowhunting in the rain for me.

I shot a nice 10 point last year in the pouring rain. Wasn't raining when I went in and wasn't supposed too. But on the way out of my stand saw him and dropped him. It was right in the middle of the rut tho.

Definately agree more difficult tracking in the rain.. But for gun, I AM ALL OVER IT !!! Your bloodtrails are usually alot shorter, and most of the time, drop quicker.. At least for me...

With a bow tracking is a nightmare. For turkeys or with a gun I'll tough it out.

Agree with tough blood trailing in the rain. So what do you do? If there is a spot you can hunt where the deer can be seen for a long way as they run off (at least 200 yards) like a tree row in a field or an open hardwoods... maybe go for it. If it is near a thicket where they disappear quickly... rethink it. Yes, they move in the rain but other considerations are definitely in order.

As others have said...light rain with little to no wind, get out there and kill something. Pouring down rain and/or windy I would wait for the calm after the storm. Also, I agree with a different tactic when it is raining. I like to set around a bunch of cedars or thick grown up areas. Seems like deer flock to these areas to get out of the rain.

Cool and Rainy days are the ticket around here...Last year we had a cold front and storm blow through on Halloween weekend and the deer movement was unbelievable....For SE NC, there were some great bucks killed them 2-3 days...
