Wow... Justin, I probably would have thrown up a little on my boot with that one. You definitely have me beat...
Justin I think I beat you I dropped Steve's Sony last year I am not sure of the model but I know it cost more than my AX2000 it landed on a log and completely busted
Dropped a pair of binoculars, I was lucky they were fine but I think you are a little more fortunate than I was.
I'm glad the camera got lucky and landed in the briar bushes below me. Saved me explaining to the wife how I destroyed our brand new camera. She does not know I dropped it and furthermore, will not find out either. I think the item I dropped the caused me the most anguish was my jacket one time. It was 17 degrees that morning, I climbed the tree, got all setup and after cooling down, reached for my jacket to put it on. It slipped out of my numb fingers and fell to the ground. I had to climb the whole way back down, get it, climb back up and get re-situated again. (using a climber). I now have a solution for this sort of thing. I have one of those weighted treble hooks you use to snag salmon. I ground all the barbs off the hooks and keep it in a 35mm film canister in my pack. If I ever drop something again, that isn't a camera that I could drop while retrieving it this way, I just put the hook on my pull up rope and fish it off the ground. Funny thing is, I haven't had to use it yet.
A few years ago I dropped my new Hoyt Trykon from 20 feet up. I was clipping it on my rope to lower it down. The only thing that broke was my rest.
I left my rangefinder in a backpack in the bed of my truck last year. I had just got home from a hunt and was going to hunt in the morning so I left the backpack. When I came out at 4:30 the next morning the grass was soaked and my backpack, rangefinder included, was submerged in water in the bed of my truck due to an unsuspected rainstorm. I drop stuff out of the tree all the time. Calls, gloves, jackets, hats, etc. but nothing too expensive fortunately...knock on wood.
Luckily my AX lived. Todd's dropped his as well, and it also survived. My old Canon XHA1 however, did not survive a trip in the drink when the SS Booner capsized in the river down at our old lease. That was no bueno. Surprised Steve didn't kill you.
I didn't drop it but, left my DDW sitting in the ground below my tree. Realized it after getting settled. Put a loop in my pull rope and hooked it. I am so glad I haven't dropped anything expensive like you guys have or worse, myself.
I've dropped myself once. Thankfully I'm young and my body can take it. I almost dropped my camcorder this morning but caught it. Sent from iPhone
I'm a property claims adjuster for a major insurance company. You can actually get insurance policies for wepons, jewelry and cameras of high value for minor mistakes as yours. Its about $1 for every $100 of insurance per year. So $15 a year and you can insure that thing. Make sure if you do buy a policy, it covers breakage... Some policies exclude and some include...
