It is going to be a long night. I shot a 3 1/2 year old 10 pointer in full velvet tonight. We looked at the footage and he is not as big as I thought but I am still happy with him. I have never shot a buck in velvet before. There was a little issue with me and the camera man because my batteries died on my mic and it was hard to get on the same page. When I shot he was quarteing away pretty hard he ran off and was breathing really hard. I am letting him lay over night and hopefully we will find him in the morning.
Best wishes on the a.m. recovery! Gotta love a velvet buck. One of these years I'm going to hunt a state that has season open early enough for a chance at some velvet.
Good Luck! Hope you find em before the wolves or coyotes do. In my neck of the woods you're truly lucky to find your deer the next day untouched. I hope to see your footage regardless.
