Im no bear expert either by any means, however, I have run across a few black bears which are not skiddish. Ive been told that this typically occurs because the sow was not around long enough to teach the bear during the cubby stages of life. So then you get the bears which are too curious for their (and our) safety. The other reason Ive been told the bear may not be skiddish, aside from the sow protecting her cubs, would be because that particular bear has not been put "in check" by another competing bear and therefore believes himself to be "king" and you an invading competitor. Its very unsettling walking up on a bear, which is why if you are in black bear territory, wear a bell, or whistle, make some sort of noise if its feasible for you to do so. Ive had several bears surprise me, and I guarntee you, even while running, they do noy make much noise at all. Kind of spooky actually. Be carefull out there!
I have thought about this but the only problem is that I cant have a firearm while bowhunting. Hopefully If he gets curious next time, he will have an arrow in his lungs before he gets to close!!
Man that would scare the heck out of me too. I would love it at the same time though. I feel sure my day is coming. We have them on cam on our property. We have no season in our county yet an there is no side arms during season.
