So I was pumped to check my cam for the month, and put new batteries in and get it setup for the last week of september to see if I could pattern my big boys and THIS is what I walked up on (Picture 1).....It had literally fallen yesterday I found out after checking my camera. Well boys and girls this guy wasn't having it. I grabbed my sd card, checked my cam, got some good pictures, and you better believe I grabbed an ax, my hooyman, and some hedge clippers. I spent 45 minutes clipping, hacking & sawing by hand, and cleared it out to look like this(Picture 2). This is also a testament to Hooyman. I sawed all the way through that upper limb which was a foot in diameter(n yes I realize that sounds tedious but A the chainsaw wouldn't start n B less noise n gas fumes for the area). I am pretty pleased with the clearing now,it has more space to the left and is way more spacious than the 2nd picture looks. You better believe nothing is going to be stopping this guy from going after those deer here in a few weeks! Sorry just had to vent a bit, I was friggin livid when I walked up on it.
Sucks that happened but way to rebound and you did a great job getting it back in shape for the season! Well done!
That sucks man....At least you got it back open though....Unfortunately, Todd was not quite as fortunate on the latest episode of BoD....He has some work cut out if He plans to hunt that same spot....
thats crazy last week i came up on my trail cam and it was on the ground. when i went through the pics i found a raccoon had slid it down the tree to the ground, but i did still get a deer walking by!!!!
Good work. Looks like a nice little clearing now that you can work with for the pics and hopefully a harvest.
I went out to check cameras last week only to find that three of my cameras had been turned off. Apparently someone was trespassing and thankfully did not steal them but did decide to turn them all off. Got to love special people who decide to walk on other's property!
I'm sure anyone who has used trail cams for long enough has had this happen to them - whether it's a tree, a branch, or a leaf that just gets in front of your cam and sets it off until the batteries die or card fills up. It's definitely frustrating!
Oh the camera wasnt the issue, I got some great pics, the spot that I cleared back out is literally a crossway for 4 different deer trails that were already there that I helped clear back in march. THAT is what I was upset about haha. But I was happy with how it turned out and even found a second climbing tree in the process in case I want a different angle. And yes Tony I suppose I could be, but thankfully I'm not so for that haha. Sometimes ya just gotta vent. This may be a blessing in disguise though with adding extra brush cover now since I am in the process of making a bowhunting ghillie suit, so who knows we will see!! Now, who else is more than ready for season opener to get here?!
