Guys when I was out pulling a trailcam card I found some brush already being marked up from a mature buck. Some nice tine marks. To bad he did not walk by the camera that was only 20 yes away. Anyone else see this yet? I am in Southern Michigan.
Have not seen this, but I put a stand and camera bout a week ago and 80 yards down the trail I did see what looked like a good sized scrap. Thought that was kind of early, but who knows.
The only scrapes I have found were from turkeys. I placed a cam a week ago over what looked like a scrape on a field edge. The ground is so dry and hard you can't make out tracks. Anyways, fast forward to last evening when I retrieved the cam. It was turkeys "drumming" on the ground...at least that is what they were doing. I wish I would not have formatted the SD card so I could have posted the pics of not only the turkeys, but the ground. The strange thing is that they were doing this were there has been a field edge scrape for the past 8 years so I thought it was from deer.
Too soon here in PA, generally don't see rubs or scrapes until end September. Are you in a drought area? perhaps that could bring it on earlier...
It is dry, like everywhere. I will post a picture later when I pull them off my camera. I thought it was odd since I am still getting velvet pics.
Saw some scrapes last weekend when i was putting in food plots. I thought i was seeing things(WAYYYYYYY too early here in WI) so i didn't mention it, but then another guy with me pointed them out as well. I think the drought is messing with them.
No rubs here but all the scrapes people are seeing are probably turkey scratchings. Ive been finding them everywhere.
We had a small 8 pointer show up on camera hard horn so there has to be a rub out there somewhere lol
I've got two properties I hunt that have a few ground scrapes used year round. One was a mock scrape opened three years ago by a buddy. The deer use them year round in those few locations. The rut ground scrapes show up in October here typically. Every year is a little different though, no doubt!
I've got a scrape that was active last year and when I was in the woods this past weekend it seemed to be 'reactivated' and clean. Also have a few new rubs on small trees. I'm down here in NC so I'm sure it's a little different but I like knowing whats going on everywhere else so I thought it might not hurt.
I have seen alot of rubbing from my nice 8 that keeps coming around my stand and that was about a week ago. I plan on putting out my mock scrapes Thursday...hoping I'm not late with this weather we've had.
