Ok you are down to your last pack of venison steaks or chops, how long do you hold out before you cook them and what are you making?

I am making Veni Bites and I like to have a venison meal the week before the season starts.

Depends on how hungry I am and how close it is to the open of the season. And as for the preparation, homemade barbecue sauce marinated, and cooked on the grill. Sides of roasted corn on the cob and baked sweet potatoes w/ brown sugar and butter.

I ration them as long as I can, but nothing motivates me better than an empty freezer

I'm down to my last set of chops and steaks, and have less than 10 lbs of burger meat left.

Thawing out the ham steaks to make veni bites as we speak though, never have tried them!

White tail Back straps, gently tenderize with a lil pepper and sea salt fried in butter in a cast iron pan. with a sides of morel mushrooms (grays) dipped in egg and dregged in crushed saltine crackers. and steamed asparagus with melted butter and salt N pepper. And a glass of crown royal after to help it all break down. Not the most healthy meal but hey might as well make it good if its the last meal.

Now I'm sad because I have non of these things in the frig besides the crown and it is on the way out by the end of the night.

Dry rub on the grill for sure, try to hold out but I would say 2 weeks till season starts to get a taste for what you are now missing in your freezer!
