So I've been looking on Google Earth like many of you have suggested to scout places where I am hunting, but it seems like every time I find a spot that looks like there is a clearing or a meadow or something like that it turns out to be brush at least waist high and lots of blackberries. Any suggestions?

I've run into that stuff also. I'd like to find a better more accurate map application :(

I like to use Google Earth to check out trails.

It works pretty well for that.

I use it together with my topo maps.

Tomorrow is Day #1 of my 2012 recon hikes.

Our bowhunting season starts in about 2 weeks.

Don't rely on one souce. Check bing aerials. Check your county gis aerials. Check topo maps.

what you just said about the waist high brush an blackberries - get a setup there where you might have 2 or 3 at most open shots and figure out a way to sneak to the stand and hunt it. Try to practice shooting somehow with angle and position that you will be in for those shots...and make the actions automatic and thereby be able to perform a quick smooth draw and kill you deer there. Might end up being the biggest buck you've seen. We have bucks that use trails that go under the rasberry bushes in cutover pulp/paper company lands up here...usually the biggest bucks around and it seems impossible to move in the stuff.

I'll keep that in mind. I hiked in to this place because there is suppose to be a pond there, but everything was so thick I gave up on trying to get to the pond, but I might go back in while I check my camera and see if there is any spots for a stand and maybe put my camera there if I don't get anything of note at my current camera spot. Wish it wasn't going to be 100 here though >.<

Like others have said, use multiple sources. For me GE is too low res and not enough detail so I no longer use it. The other source I have are hi res and some are 2 year old photos.
One of the nice things is the field scouting to confirm what you saw on the photo. After time and field recon your eye will interpret the photo better.

Use all the aerials and topos ya want, there is still no substitute to boots on the ground in scouting. Unless an aerial was taken during a previous hunting season it's no going to show you whats there at the time you hunt anyway, things change.

Anyone know if there is a way to get boundaries of a conservation area on google earth or bing maps on the satellite view?

Thank You! thats exactly what I wanted! Its was getting really frustrating having to judge the boundaries by roads and stuff.

Each area emblem has a menu when you click it, shows a little info with 3 links to important things to know for each one.

Any idea how accurate those boundary lines are? I have been looking at google earth using that kmz for a few weeks to scout land back home in missouri while I am still here in Arizona.

I have private land to hunt but can have access to thousands of acres if I start hunting public land! :D

If you have any doubts look at the map link they provide, I cant attest to all of them in the KMZ being correct but the ones I look at all seem to be dead on. I think one exception I found was near Truman, I may have to find it again now that you ask.

Sounds like you've found some real good spots to hunt....you should be happy that they wernt clearing's and meadow's.

Well I mean I don't want them to be completely bare, but it was rough getting in there and I couldn't get to this pond that I wanted to set my camera near.
