I was at a long lost hideaway in a cabin this weekend and found this hanging there. great mass and the strange point coming out in the middle of it's head. all the old woman knew it's been there for 40+ years since her husband died, she is in her late 90's .
Nice photo. It looks like a 6x7 although it is really a 5x5 but somewhat atypical. This buck had a 3rd antler growing out of his head. Rare but not unknown. Too bad they did not mount the whole head, whoever did this. Personally, if I were not planning to mount this one, I would have let it go, and bagged a smaller one. A good meat hunter always passes on the really extraordinary trophies. As a good trophy hunter always passes on the smaller ones.
acctually its a perfect 6 by 6, with an abnormal center point (third main beam) and a split g2 on the left side, making it a 14 pointer, not 13 as you said.
Hey Ultra, you should put those arrowheads on this thread too for everyone to see. I thought they were even better than the antlers and there's a bit more of a story that goes with them too. After all, those are basically ancient broadheads, right? Which also makes me wonder what that collection is worth and if she'd be interested in selling...? Now that might be a great deal. I'm thinking far better than the antlers!!! Cope
That is one cool looking rack. Have never seen a unicorn buck in the woods....unless i count a spiker that had one side missing. I would not mind seeing the arrowheads mentioned above if you have pics of those also.
Nice rack, it looks a little like one I took last year. I would have offered to take it home and clean it up for her so she could give it to someone in the family that hunts. If she had nobody to give it to I would ask her for it and donate the rack to the DNR.
The third main beam is generally caused when the buck received a scalp injury while in velvet and a piece of velvet got lodged in there and started growing.
