I use twister nap vanes I love them, I prefer vanes because they are faster and with all their technologic advances they fly as well as feathers, it also depends on your tackle
Feathers.2" truflight sheild cut. I use them because they're lighter , imo guide the arrow better, and most important they look cooler:D:D
I greatly prefer feathers and find them very durable. They seem a bit more forgiving concerning contact issues but either one works great if the bow is well tuned and the arrows are properly spined. Neither works well if tuning issues exist.
I like feathers these days, however I can shoot accurately with vanes just as well. Feathers seem to be a little more forgiving.
@Santibowhunter- Where did you hear that vanes are faster? That's not the case. The extra weight slows the arrow down. A feather is significantly faster out to 50 yards and past 50 they're the same. I like vanes for their durability, but that's where the list ends. Feathers are faster, do a better job of guiding the arrow and IMO look cooler.
Oh boy... This can be a heated topic. Specifically by people that have a passion for feathers. I use both.... I will say that I prefer vanes just because if a single feather is out a place I loose it. Meaning mentally everything needs to look and function the same everytime. At the same time I also count everything in my house. If there is a odd number of anything I will almost do anything I can to make it even. lol! Basket case right?
4- 2" low profile vanes. I think they look cool, steer any BH effectively, and I don't have to worry about any wet conditions. I use feathers and appreciate their use (use them on my longbow), but use only vanes on my compounds!
I like vanes personally. I use either Blazer Vanes or the Vanetec variety. They're tough and stand up to the abuse of shooting a lot. Feathers are good though, especially at stabilizing broadheads.
I have used: 2 inch blazers 2 inch ryzr feathers NAP quickfletch Each one is great for the application. I was never a big fan of the quickfletch, only because if you tore one, it got expensive quick. The feathers were great but I needed more weight so switched to the blazers. I have no complaints with either. For speed the feathers worked great and guided even a big fixed. The blazers are the same except they weigh slightly more, which I used to help increase my overall weight.
I used to use feathers but switched over to blazers so I didn't have to worry about the weather and feathers getting wet. Also blazers are much quieter. This switch saved me last year on 11/9 - pouring rain and wind and drilled 140" 8 with perfect flight - double lung
Wrong. Rain as no effect on feathers. None. If it is raining so hard that you imagine it will affect the feathers then it is probably raining too hard to blood trail an animal.
I still don't agree with feathers perfroming the same wet or dry... It's all about surface area. Is that like saying a jet can still fly with half a verticle or horizontal (tail) stabilizer. Unless it can be scientifically prove they fly the same wet or dry I am not buying it.
How about you prove they can't fly just fine when wet? See how that works . Next time you are shooting arrows with feathers take a glass of water and let one soak for as long as you like, then shoot. Then get back to me .
