Do you guys think I could put up a hang-on in the afternoon near where I know turkeys roost so I could slip into it in the morning before they fly down? Do you think that would work or would I alert them coming in so they'd just fly off once the sun came up.
I know people say I'll have my best luck from a blind and I'll try that but planning a three day, end of season hunt with a few buddy's and looking at some options.

    Thanks

Doesn't matter. I doubt you ever get to full draw before they bust you! My experience is you shouldn't try to hunt turkeys from treestands.

I would have to disagree. I had 10 at about 12-14yd my very first deer season. I was in a 15 foot buddy stand and came to full draw on them just to see if I could. They were there for over 15 min and never had a clue I was there. I had them around me last season as well and didn't get busted. I actually thought about doing it this season as well but haven't. Season starts Saturday so I'll probably just ground blind it.

I shot one last year from a stand but I saw them coming and drew before them came around some bushes. They stayed around after the shot and never knew where I was.
I'm just wondering if they'll hear me and remember i'm there when they fly down from their roost?

I would agree. Getting a shot at one from a tree-stand is certainly possible but I think your odds will increase significantly if you are in a ground blind (vs. tree-stand)....

Agree. You'll just decrease your chances of success 100 fold.

From my experience, that's pretty rare.

I have blinds, I was just looking at other options, running and gunning being one.

There're couple different manufacturers making an umbrella type blind that attaches to your bow. I would go with that first for run & gun (bow) hunting.

I was in a tree stand about 15' also and saw about 20 birds, 35-40 yards away. I went to full draw and set the pin right on them and they didnt even notice. I practice shots like that all the time so I feel very confident that it wouldve been a kill. You might want to set a little farther away just to make sure you dont alert them but its very possible that you could kill one from stand. Just have to change up stradegdy with decoys. etc.

I've shot turkeys from the tree, but it's definitely not easy. I think your time would be better spent building a ground blind.

Hadnt thought about building a blind. I may like that better than sitting inside a store bought blind.

Turkey huntin is hard enough, but if you want the hardest hunt in my opinion, then try to purposely set up on turkey's with a prehung stand and use a bow.

    LOL.

Stick to a nice pop up blind with some decoys. If you got em located, you halfway ahead of me.

I agree..although the only bird I've shot with my bow was out of a stand.

You aren't crawling with birds over there, Ben?

I have two hens and a Jake decoy set and I plan to set up in a blind for starters.
The reason I asked about the stand is because I already have a stand set up near their roosting local.

I think it may work. I've had opportunities at turkeys while deer hunting from my stand during the evening though

...not sure have't been to the farm in a bit. The ones that were hammering by the house have shut up.

I'm pretty sure we should just cancel the season.
