From 3 to 10 years old I had many recurves and longbows. At 11 years old dad bought me my 1st hunting bow. 12 years old was the age you could start hunting (legally) In Minnesota. My 1st hunting bow was a Martin Lynx. Like a dumb *** I sold It when I was half way through college. I started running out of cash and needed money. I called the guy I sold It to about 4 months ago asking him If he still had that bow as I would buy It back from him. He had no Idea what he did with It. I'm pissed at myself big time yet for selling that bow!!
Ok, I maybe wrong on the name...if I am someone help me out. But My first bow was a Steiner?, it was compound with a wooden riser. She was a beast of thing but I shot it enough to be proficient with it. When I first bought it she had one of the old cobra sights with a brass pin, the pin guard was a U shaped rod that was on an angle. I was using Eastons with a 125 grain coc hoyt bh, you could see the arc at 25 yards when you shot...
Mine was a Kodiak Magnum Recurve. I got it when I was in Jr. High from the local Sears and Roebuck in the 70's. I killed a Woodcock with it. I still have it and hope to Kill a deer with it at some point. Owen Jeffery was the guy who designed it for Bear. He taught me how to shoot. SB
My first bow was a Browning Mirage, I think around 70# pull, had a plunger rest and an overdraw on it. It has been a long time so I don't remember most of the details but it was a decent bow back then.
Started out with a 2006 reflex excursion given to me as a Christmas gift from my dad. I shot that for a year or two, then bought a 2008 reflex charger and gave my excursion back to my dad so I could get him into bowhunting. I killed a couple with the charger then bought my current bow, a 2010 Hoyt turbohawk. I plan on shooting it for a few more years.
My first bow was a Browning of some kind. It was a kids bow since I was just 10 or 12. Then I stepped up to a Reflex Bighorn that I bought off my brother in law. I killed a lot of deer with that bow, and for what I paid, it was a great bow. Now I just purchased a 2012 G5 Rogue by Quest. This is the nicest bow I've ever had by a long shot.
1st was the red fiberglass long bow. 1st hunting bow is driving me crazy trying to think of the name...i want to say it started with an O, somewhere around 1995-96ish??
pops' bear all black, shot it till my fingers blead. and then finally built up a callous. couldnt tell you what draw length it was, didnt know what weight arrow i was shooting all i could tell you is that it was hitting the mark. brought it to archery class in HS one day and everyone was amazed at how fast it was and how cool the sight was. how light the arrows were, and the fletching was plastic not feathers (we used to use pins, real pins like you buy in the hundreds and wrap hockey tape around the riser above the grip and stick the pins in the hockey tape and that was your sight/pin)
