Since we bought our land in Nov. of '09 I've known and hunted this buck. I believe that he was 4 1/2 when I first got him on cam. I laid eyes on him a couple times during the '09 gun season. He was too quick for me. My land is very hilly and it doesn't take much for a deer to get out of sight. During the 10/11 season, the buck became very nocturnal. I got 1 pic of him in daylight during the month of July then he didn't show up again until Dec 2010. He was a big, muscular dude with good mass that season. This year, 11/12, I got him on cam in Oct. He went from a clean 10 to a 12. He grew a fork on his right g-3 and a g-5 on his left antler. Big body. No day light pics at all. The next time I got him was in Dec. and it looks like he took a bullet across the brisket and through the fore leg (left). It also looks like another buck got a piece of him in his wounded condition. I got these pics in my food plot on top of my ridge. The next pics I got of him were near my trailer where I put out some treats for the deer. Man, did he look in rough shape! He looks to have lost 75 lbs. But his latest pics he seems to show improvement. I certainly hope he makes it. I'd love another chance to match wits with him. Enjoy. 09/10 10/11 11/12 oops! not him! Injury On the mend? You guys notice the black spot on the tip of his right ear?
He is looking kind of rough mid way there...couple of the newer pics he look better ....hopefully he keeps that trend up The easy meals wont hurt nothing...I say keep that up all winter.
Good to see he's looking better. We have a 6.5 year old that we've been watching for 4 years...Big 8. He was looking bad right after he shed both sides on Dec 4th. We got a lot of pics of him recently and he looks a lot better. Glad its an easy winter on them!
Wow, what a great buck. Hopefully he will get back healthy and you can put an arrow through him next season.
Very cool Greg!! Love to see how bucks develope over the years. He does seem to be looking much better the last pics. Good plan, I'd be helping him get some easy meals if possible. Hes a great buck, super genetics. Good luck with him next season buddy. Looks like hes gotten some hunter education this year for sure.
That old boy remind me a lot of the buck in my avatar Greg, 3 years of trail caming him and watching him grow old before I killed him this year and quite frankly mine wasn't looking to healthy.. I hope he/your big boy makes your winter and it looks like your helping him out! It would be great if you kill him next fall, he'd mean a lot to you I am sure. Good luck.
It's a great buck for sure and you obviously have a great history with him. He looked so majestic in the 1-3-11 pic. I really hope you are the one that ends up with him in your truck. Blessings.......Pastorjim
I think that it's awesome to have such a long history with a great animal like that. With the easy winter that we have going on I see no reason why he shouldn't make it through. He does indeed look alot better in the recent photos. Good luck with him Greg! I hope to see some more photos during the off-season and some harvest photos this fall!!!
Nice buck. Hope he makes it through the winter OK. Maybe this injury will produce a freak rack out of him this coming year. Man, I wish the deer around here could be watched for years like this. Around here, if a deer like that was seen close to a road somewhere, you better believe everyone and their brother would be either trying to jack light him or will be sitting on top of each other come hunting season.
That's a neat history, I hope he makes it. Like others said he did look to be improving. That is really cool.
