What are you planting in your plots this year?? When will you be planting??

I planted too late this past season. I think it was late August and the plots didn't grow good until later.

I think I am going to plant turnips, clover, oats and winter peas in two of my big plots and taking out the oats in other small ones. I will be planting Sorghum as a visbarrierrier in a few places.

So what are you guys doing??

    Ah...the millionn dollar question....

In main plot we'll be planting soybeans (protected till late Sept)circled with brassicas. A couple fingers off of this main plot will be planted with Winter Rye as well.

All the small plots will vary with the following:

    -Clover blend
    -winter rye
    -brassicas (turnips and trophy radishes)
    -oats
    -wheat
    -winter peas

And who knows maybe more haha....depends if I keep opening up tiny spots to plant.

soybeans and turnips for sure. The fields around where I hunt will all have corn this year, so no need to plant that. Will probably put some brassicas around the outside of the bigger plot

Clover with a few rows of corn, that I will leave standing.

And possibly some round up ready beans from Eagle Seed.

planting some ladino clover in a few small kill plots, the other two will be a mixture of forage brasicas and purple tops.

Toying around with the idea of a round up readdy grain sourghum planted in rows in my big plot. (2acres) then broadcasting purpletops over the whole thing in mid august.

will have one plot thats winter wheat, gonna plant that in mid august, and hope it gets 12 inches tall before killing frost, give the deer lots of forage!

    time will tell!

I see you guys have a good grasp on food plot selection and timing. Has anyone in the southern regions ever put out chuffa for turkey?

I would recommend kale, clover(ladino&alsike), and turnips for good mix that should do well there. Plant the clover early(soon as you can work the ground) and the others right after frost is done.

Note sure. Most likely tilling existing clover under, and planting clover/winter rye in one half, and turnips in the other. KISS, and it seems to really work around here. I'm planning to possibly open some other plots up and maybe try some other combination of possibly oats, chicory, and clover. All clover and turnips are getting planted in the late summer.

Some winter peas, winter wheat, alfalfa, turnips, and I'm pretty interested in a blend by whitetail institute called power plant.

Anyone out there have any experiences good or bad with power plant by the whitetail institute?

Our club did. Deer and turkey love it. If I remember right it was expensive and more work than normal food plots, then again sometimes the club over complicate things.
