I posted a thread before about stands etc... I decided id buy a Lone Wolf Assault II and a few sticks with that. My question is how many sticks do you guys normally carry with you AND what accessories/ tools when you go out to set up? Thanks.
Just got my Lone wolf Assault II and 3 climbing sticks 2 days ago, and must say, i luuuuv it :D i asked the same question before i bought the stand, and most of them said between 3-4 i bought a 3 climbing stick package, and tried it out yesterday. REALLY easy to set up, incredible light weight. it's amazing how easy it is to put it up and take it down. and i think 3 climbing sticks will work out just fine for me. ( remember you do not need to go buy a fall arrest system, there is one included.) - Mogensen
I use 4 sticks with my Alphas and usually sit around 16-17', depending on cover. 3 sticks wouldn't be enough for me in most spots. For setting the stand up, I bring a rope, Treehopper linemans belt and a Hooyman extendable saw.
I use 4 sticks and pull a 25' cord and it is pulling my bow a little at platform height, when needed. i put the next stick at knee height when on the lower stick just like I would with screw in steps. I dont go past the platform height like they recomend, I go to the platform height like I have with every stand I have allways hung. I like my L/W set up but hockey tape will be your freind if you really want them as quiet as everyone says they are. and practice is also neccisary.
3 is enough for me, so far... I have to get used to shoot from the height, i shot from it for the very first time yesterday, i was shaking... literally shaking. so before i go any higher i want to be comfortable shooting from this distance.. ( i was in approx. 14-15feet) - Mogensen
I hunt Illinois and Missouri... classic Midwest terrain. Like Dan, no way could I get by with three sticks... four's just right.
4 sticks can get me right to 20', and I feel uncomfortable being any lower than that. Normally I'll stick sight the stock Lone Wolf harness, and I attach a loop to each side to carry a set of sticks up. Best thing I can recommend is to experiment with different ways to climb and setup your set. For me, 2 trips up the tree for setup is best, then one additional trip with all my gear. Quiet is key for me, not time. Find what works best for you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
X3 I actually have six sticks came out cheaper in the long run. In rare times I will pull out the fifth stick some of my public spots are next to steep ridges and I need the extra height. After a while you will see your height increase as you get used to setting up.
usually need about four sticks depending on their size/brand. I have stretched it few times with just three however i feel having the forth one makes it safer and easier to climb as I am not spacing them out as far. I always carry an pull rope and wear a lines man belt attached to my harness....just makes it so that i can use both hands when setting them up
While I do prefer 4 sticks, I've gotten by with 3 and killed deer from those sets. 4 is preferrable, but not always necessary. As for what I bring - my list is pretty much the same as Dan's. A lineman's belt, hand saw, Hooyman 10 foot extendible saw, and bow rope.
kinda hard to see but 4 sticks does me right. easily above 20' usually put up a bow hanger (3 piece) and one screw in step on the opposite side for an xtra handle. dont forget your tree saw.... heard something about WICKED tree saws being the best on the market ;-)
