Have a carbon express max hunter that has an insert with a broken broad head in it. Its down in the insert below the top of the arrow shaft. What's the easiest way to remove the insert and now damage the arrow? Thinking of heating but worried about the arrow cracking Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Get a bolt slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the shaft, cut the head off the bolt , put it in the nock end of the arrow swing the arrow so the bolt goes toward the insert with force. A longer bolt will work better as it is heavier. Sometimes it work sometimes not.
Do what striker said only a better and easier option to a bolt is using a drill bit. Most people have a set laying around the house. Sling shot the drill bit from the back end to the front with as much force as you can and it should pop the insert right out. You may need to swing/hit it a couple times. Use caution as the insert and bit may come flying out, so make sure to point in a safe direction.
Yep, the drill bit technique has saved my butt many times. Just do it hard enough to nock the insert loose. Don't swing the arrow around like you're trying to hit one over the Green Monster at Fenway or anything. That insert and drill bit will fly out of there like a bat out of hell. Just give it a couple of easy swings first. That might be all it takes to break it loose and wiggle it out.
Pretty much what these guys said! I use a length of Brass turned down, its just a bit heavier and makes it easier. I also lay a pillow on the floor and try to discharge the insert and brass rod onto it. They can fly kinda far if you miss! stay clear of windows
Once the insert is starting come out (using the drill bit) you can stop swinging and start using a basketball dribbling action where you keep the end of the arrow with the insert pointed down at the ground, then start dribbling (shaking) the arrow, allowing the drill bit the slid up towards the nock and drop hard against the insert, and the insert and drill bit will safely fall right on the ground instead of across the room Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have always used a bit of heat with no problem. But I will try the drill bit next time and see how that works.
i usually have luck by pouring some acetone down in the shaft and letting it sit for a while as it softens the glue or opoxy up a bit then i go to the drill bit slinging deal , i have had it unravel the fibers from the shaft especially if loctite or super glue was used when glueing in the insert and junking out the shaft as the shaft has melted fast to the insert.
