Bow-21 feet whitetail buck Rifle-Antelope 604 yds(measured after the shot) .338 Win Mag.(heart shot) Rifle-1007 yd prairie dog (25-06)
The longest shot I've taken at a deer with a bow was 28 yards. (smoked him, but watching that arrow arc toward him made me decide that was really too far for future shots) Longest shot taken at a deer with a shotgun was 50 yards. (only shot at 3 deer with the shotgun, killed them all but the ranges were only 40 yards, 11 yards and 50 yards) Longest show taken at a deer with a rifle (.30-06) was 40 yards. Killed about a dozen deer with a rifle, one I could have poked with the end of the rifle but I waited 'til it got farther away because you know, stuff splatters both ways with a .30-06. Most were about 20 yards or less. Deer seem oblivious to me when I'm in blaze orange.
32 yards with a bow- Deer 230 yards with Rifle 270 win -Deer 56 yards with Rifle .22- Squirrel (one those I can kill that squirrel accross the field- no you can't- well I did)
RIDICULOUS AND INSANE. edit: did not see the part stated the deer was wounded. Its make a difference. But bowshots up to 80 yards are in my opinion 40 yards to much. Treads like this do not benefit the hunting cause.
Furthest bow kill 58 yards, Caribou Don't think I every bow shot a deer over 40 yards. Have several rifle shots that were 300+ on deer and that was a special situation. The vast majority of gun kills have been under 100 yards.
With a rifle, no exact yardage but it was a big old muley doe in MT. Buddy i was hunting with had a rangefinder that could range up to 600yds but we couldn't get it to register on anything near the doe. Some where close to 630yds is my best guess. w/ a 270 WSM. With a bow: 35yd shot on a doe this year
