Been slow here in northern Illinois. I'm relaxing and spending time with the family this weekend, I'm leaving for columbus ohio halloween night and will be in treestand on november 1st in licking county ohio. I hope to lay a giant down on film and get us some points! Good luck everyone!
Good luck out there Ryan! You hunting with an outfitter? Public land? I was fortunate enough to score on a nice 145" buck on Saturday morning in NW IL. Didn't have a chance to score him before we dropped him at the meat processor, so we'll have to wait a couple weeks until I get the rack and cape back. I'm figuring right around 145-146" gross. Points on the board for Buck Patrol!
congrats JZ, you deserve it bud!!! I'm hunting on private land, several thousand acres, so I'm excited alot of 200+" deer in the area, but I'm gonna shoot the first deer grossing close to 150."
Any updates?? Deer movement seems to have really picked up... Unfortunately for me, I've got work obligations through Thursday... But then it's a full week of hunting!!
Well gents - got my buck back from the processor last night and put the tape to him. I had to score him 3 different times to make srue I wasn't losing my mind. He grossed quite a bit higher than I originally though. Came in at 158 7/8" gross and should net right around 148" or so. His rack is pretty deceiving for some reason, but good beams and decent mass really helped him out. I'm very excited to say the least. How's everyone else doing??
Very nice!! He's a great looking buck for sure! Getting my work/job & home stuff taken care of so I can take off on Thursday for IA... Then it's a over a straight week of hunting for me!
Congrats on that buck JZ!!! Ohio was very slow, they had alot of rain before I got out their and the farmers haven't been able to get the corn out. I was hunting a farm in licking county ohio which normally produces, but I was told their were thousands of acres of corn still standing in that general area. I passed on a 130" ten that knocked over my decoy, got it on film. Had another 10 point come in 140 class but couldn't get a shot on him. Tommorrow should be good if this rain stops. Full moon, big cold front and the deer will get up after this heavy rain stops. I'm ready to see some serious rutting activity! Good luck guys....
Scored this one Saturday morning. He grosses 151 4/8". I was not seeing what I wanted, lots of deer and bucks just not the right ones. I went in to a new BIG timber Friday afternoon totally blind and found some good sign then I looked for a pinch point and the right tree to set up shop. Sat there Friday afternoon and then again Saturday morning. Saw 2 bucks Friday then 2 on Saturday. This was the second one. With 11 3/8" G2's and 23" main beams he looked great coming through the timber. I was in thick cover and had to pic my window and thread the needle at 43 yds. Arrow hit was back and made the hollow pumpkin sound you never want to hear. I never moved out of the tree for 2hrs. I never found my arrow but found great blood then it dried up. I then pulled out. I retrieved him 50 yds from where I left the trail at 4 that afternoon and I could not have been happier. He was dead before I left the tree. He was quartering enough away the arrow came out just behind the opposite shoulder. I hope I helped my team well!
Here is another pic of him. Congrats to all... Is there anything else I need to do to insure our team get the points accordingly?
Congrats on the great deer fellas. I have one more week out here in Ks to try and get it done. These all day sits are tough and starting to wear on me but i'm gonna stick it out to the end if i have to. Good luck to everyone still at it.
Believe you need to post two pics that include you, your bow and deer in the scoring thread - along with the size/score measurements of your deer (you can look at other peoples posts for examples)...
He's correct. Just post it up in the Score Card and we'll get our points. With your buck plus Suburban's buck we should have enough to take the lead in this contest. Congrats, he's a dandy!
Well guys, dropped the hammer on a nice 5x5 today. He gave me a heck of a scare... Didn't get good penetration and it took me 80yds before finding any blood - despite have some snow on the ground. Luckily I found some at a creek crossing and then later another couple of specs that helped me determine the direction he was going... As it turned out he proabably only went 200 yds but when you don't have a clear direction and very little blood made for a tough tracking job! I'm in the boonies right now so it will probably take me a couple of days to get some pics posted - but I'll get it done as soon as I can... Good luck to everyone still hunting, looks like we are putting some points on the board!
