Young buck (needed some meat or i would have passed) 7pts shot from 36 yds away He was facing me and would not give me a broadside shot. Shot him through the chest right into his heart and cut one lung. He dropped right down right there and bled out quick. Going to get another tag and waiting on a trophy

36 yards facing you ? ? Very LOW percentage shot in my opinion and one I would never take. I never need meat that bad to take a risky shot. Glad it worked out for you. Congrats !

Facing shot at 36 yards is a little sketchy, but it's a good thing you put him down quick. Got any pics?

That's a small target zone to aim for! Dang! Nice shot placement there. Take a pic of the entry hole and show us some pics

This could have just as easily turned into a "bad shot, weak blood trail, how long should I wait" thread. Low percentage shot. Congrats on being lucky.

No amount of practice can make that a high percentage shot. What if the deer moved his head and you shot him in the head? A buddy of mine just tried the same shot from the ground at 10 yards on a 150"+ buck, and he never found him.

i was on the ground too....what if he was broadside and stepped one step forward and i gut shot him? the arrow is going in the same place as it would broadside right?

I agree 100%. A frontal shot with a bow is not a good idea in my books.

But shooting a deer that is facing you, the deer could move his head and you could have hit him in the face. It's just too risky of a shot for me, and I will never think about taking it

rather shoot him in the head and drop him then shoot his guts out and have him running around all day in misery
i wont take it again but just what i think about it all

A head shot is not always a kill shot. There are some pictures floating around on here of deer with arrows and crossbow bolts sticking out of their heads

I'm not proud of it but I've made this shot before in the past. Looked almost exactly the same. Deer dropped in 20 yards. popped the heart. It really is low % though.
