Watched a couple does go up a draw about 80yds from me this morning, then come zipping back out of there, looking over their shoulders. Having seen coyotes chasing deer a few nights ago, I assumed the sneaky little bastards were up to no good again, but I got a very PLEASANT surprise. A MONSTER came trotting down the hillside, proceeded to chase on for a hundred or so yards, then came back and racked over a tree and freshened up a scrape. At first I thought he looked to be 150-ish, but after getting a better look through my Binos, I believe he may be nearing 170-180's..... Long thick mains (probably 26-27" and nearly 7-8" around), probably 19-20" inside spread, and LONG TINES, damned thing looked like an elk with his head down raking over a little tree. He wouldn't respond to a soft grunt nor very soft gentle rattling. I believe the chase phase has started and the horns may as well stay home. I did also get to watch a little basket 8pt rake over a couple trees about 25-30yds off the path the Monster took, as well, then I watched another small buck chase a doe across a field off in the distance. All in all a GOOD morning. Got my stand re-inforce welded and painted as well, now to wait for it to dry and spray it off with some scent killer to suppress any paint odors. HAPPY HALLOWEEN it's been!!! Now to take the kiddies out begging tonight...:D
