Its all personal preferance. I like fixed blades they're simple and easy like me. Different strokes for different folks. Shoot what you like and what your accurate with.
it all depends on the style of hunting you choose. if you're a stalker then fixed blade all the way. Rage 2 blade open up everytime they touch something i.e twig, leaf, something stupid and in the way... you get the drift. I personally love the Rage 2 blade and the damage it causes when it hits it target. Never before have I seen such an phenomenal blood trail. it was like a truck hit the deer at 80 MPH in the woods. WORD!
i will have to say fixed blades you never have to worry about expandables never opening up...it happend to my buddy this year with the grim reapers he shot at the doe and hit but the never opened up but in the end he still ended up getting so after that i will never go to expandables
I currently use the NAP Bloodrunner 2 blades. They worked wonders on both my deer and bear this year and worked just as well on my buddy's buck for the past couple years, I'd highly recommend them. I've used fixed blade as well, if I had to pick on solid choice for a fixed blade boradhead I think I'd have to choose the G5 Montec. Never had any experience with 3 blade expandables, however I have heard many good things about the NAP Bloodrunner 3 blades, and the NAP Spitfire line. I don't think that any one type of broadhead is any better these days, IMO it just depends on what specific head you personally have confidence in.
I killed one doe this fall with a rage two blade... awesome kill. I killed one doe with a NAP bloodrunner two blade...awesome kill. I like them both. Bloodrunners are easier to change blades on than the Rage, but I think the Rage flys more like a field tip....
I killed a deer with a rage 2 blade but it was a pain in the but to fix with the 0-rings on them i keep cutting my fingers so i switched to nap thunderhead 3 blade and they are a lot simpler.
I am a fixed guy all the way. Just no complications and no chance for mechanical failure. Also, they dont pop open in the quiver and no rubber bands to mess with.
The main reason I prefer the mechanical is they shoot so much like a field tip I hunted fixed for a long time and hated how much louder and how much they dropped before impact
The way Grim Reapers are built, they have to open, its a hinge. I have shot them into a potatoe the size of a baseball and they were open on the entrance side.
