    Don't Forget Your Rangefinder

Well fellow Tree rats, I blew my first opportunity at a doe yesterday evening. I was hunting a spot yesterday for the first time and left my rangefinder in my Jeep. I shot over the back of a doe that was about 26 yards away. I thought she was 30 or a little over. Needless to say she got a haircut. Still pretty bummed about that but it happens and a lesson was learned. I did see to 2 small bucks and a half dozen does. With the change in weather I'm sure I will have the chance to redeem myself this weekend.

Way to go Josh, and posted in the scorecard already, cool. I'm getting ready to head out for the morning hunt myself, but not sure how long I'll stay, there are thunderstorms on the doorstep this morning. The camera equipment doesn't like rain, and neither do I for that matter.

Got rained out this morning bout 8:20. The camera equipment doesn't like rain.

I got bad news the night before opening day. I lost 75 acres that I usually hunt on that joins the 25 I have been hunting 10 minutes from home. The landowner called and said some of their relatives want to hunt it this year. I still have the 25 acres but it's mostly a bean field that I hunt the edges of. The 75 has some good woods with oaks on it. I'm not seeing the big guys out in daylight like I had been getting pics a couple of weeks ago and now I can't get back in the woods to hunt them.

I've seen deer every sit but two, mostly does and fawns, Saturday morning and this am were deerless. Saw the same forky and small 8 point 2 evenings in a row. The only ones I've had in range was the forky at 10 yards Friday evening right at last light and then a doe followed him by after shooting hours were past. Didn't want to use my buck tag on a forky.

Can't hunt tonight, it's my dads Bday party.

Just posted the doe on the score card. Been hunting my maryland property for the last couple days. Havent seen a shooter yet. Just one little 120"er. Hope a bruiser comes my way soon to make up for all the damn mosquito raping I have endured!! There terrible this year!!

    That is funny man!

Good Job Rutt Nutt!! I know what you mean about the mosquitos. They have not been this bad since Hurricane Floyd dumped all that rain on us in 1999. They are absolutely terrible here.

Invest in a Thermacell, and your mosquito problems will disappear. I have not seen it spook a deer, but it does have a slight odor. I use it all the time and have killed deer with mine running.

I prolly won't get out until Friday evening this week. Working from 7am to 5:30 pm don't leave much time to hunt during the week.

I have a thermacell.. I think they laughed at me when I lit it up!!! We got hit by hurricane Irene and it trippled our mosquito problem. I hunt in a swamppy river bottom and that surely don't help. And for those of you that don't know, sliverflicker is my dad. And yes, he's a smartass with the pecker jokes!!!
