A spoon, that's all I need to put the fear of anyone coming in my house.

I sleep naked. I'm sure it's enough to scare any intruder.

I recently picked up a TLR-1S. It's nice, that strobe in a dark room is enough to make you sick...

I also find it odd, that NY won't allow you to have a handgun... But will allow you to own an assault rifle.

Why anyone would live in a state like that is beyond me.

I'd like to say I had an early warning system in my dog, but she sleeps more soundly than me, and she'd probably go and want petted from the intruder.
So instead I have various handguns within reach.

I too feel like I should have a dedicated home defense shotgun, but I just haven't gotten around to getting one yet.

So... you can't get a hand gun permit... but you can have an AR-15 next to the bed???

The laws in some parts of this country are so messed up!

I can get a handgun, but basically it's a roughly 12 month process that costs a lot of money. And once I do get it, it can't leave the house unless I'm heading directly to or from a range or for hunting. You can actually get charged with a felony for stopping at a gas station between your house and the range.......it's that ridiculous. The ability to get a concealed permit is different based on what county you get, some judges are more flexible than others in NY, but the county I'm in now it's basically impossible. When we move next spring, it should be a lot easier and I'll wait till then to start the process.

NY has weird laws on long guns too. You can own a semi auto rifle, but not an "Assault Rifle" by definition. Basically if your semi auto rifle has a detachable magazine you cannot have more than one of the following features or it then becomes an "Assault Rifle".
    • folding/telescoping stock
    • pistol grip
    • bayonet mount/lug
    • flash suppressor or threaded barrel
    • grenade launcher
Pretty ridiculous. I built mine based on parts I ordered online so I could legally get around the laws. I bought the upper receiver locally, but then had a 16' low profile light barrel shipped to my house and had a compensator pinned and permanently fixed to the barrel to get around the flash hider/threaded barrel piece.Mine has a fixed position stock, no bayonet lug, and obviously no grenade launcher. I also can't have more than 10 round clips unless they are pre ban, but I managed to stock up on those pre ban clips legally.

To be honest, I'd love to move out of NY due to the ridiculous laws and taxes, but it's tough to leave a good job and family. If you think the gun laws are bad, you should see the red tape/taxes on small business.

    Why no grenade launcher????

I'd trade off the flash hider for the grenade launcher ;)

You guys have nothing to protect your family, yourself or belongings in the event of a home invasion????

I don't care where you live.... IMO that is not a smart move. To many crazy people out there to be unprepared.

You plan to spray them, then beat them, then stab them, then shoot them? You are a bad man!

I just traded off my lcp on Monday. They are nice pistols, I just couldn't get down with the trigger on it.

What will you use as your service pistol? Any idea yet?

I have a Glock 23 .40 cal in the nightstand ready to go. A Ruger LCP stays in my truck at all times unless I'm carrying it in my back pocket.

The trigger does suck on the LCP but I like it's size.

Maybe NY looks at it like... Much harder to conceal an AR15 than it is to conceal a handgun.

I don't like the trigger on the LCP either, but it is the only handgun I own right now and I like its size. I just squeeze and aim center mass.
