It has been a long and fun week. I was blessed to have a place to hunt for free. My friend met this guy n a bar 2 years ago out here in great bend and the guy is just generousn with his hunting ground. he was actually only here for 2 days and left us to do as we pleased.
I had seen more deer in this week as i have my whole life.I had 9 bucks near my stand yesterday, but none that I came to Kansas to shoot. I had pretty much admitted defeat as i was on the last evening hunt of my trip. i pulled out the primos decoy and figured I had nothing to lose. The only reason I have a decoy is because wally world was selling them for 50 bucks last spring. At 630 I did a rattle. Five minutes later a smaller 8 pt comes in behind me, i take a shot and miss at 30 yards. i was heart broken, that was the only semi shooter I had close all week. I am trying to call him back in, I get some interest but not much. I turn and see this guy sneaking around my decoy. He goes to get a wiff of the decoys rear and I drill him in the shoulder. He makes it 30 yards max and is dead.
A picture of the decoy from my stand and the the deer.

I was thinking the same thing !! LOL Geeze from heartbreak to a heart pumping thrill all in one hunt. I bet he had to set a spell to calm down and get his emotions under control after shooting the big buck !! :busted: :tu:

it was actually a matter of a minute between missing and this guy coming in. This is only my second deer ever, both bucks taken by bow( I tried like heck to shoot a doe here but every deer i have seen have almost all been young small bucks). Thanks for the kind words, i am still on cloud 9. It will help with the 26 hour drive home I start tomorrow afternoon.

Congrats teammate. You got him. I'm so happy for ya. He is awesome.

Edit- I just read the story. Awesome hunt and great miss haha. That's one heck of a buck. Way to make the second shot count.
