I gotta ask, do any of you hang"buddy" stands? By this I mean a stand that's usually a double ladder in a less than ideal spot for people to hunt IE in-laws, friends that only come around during gun season etc.
    AITA on this topic?

I put them up for friends that want to hunt my property. Not letting them sit my good spots.

I have mix of ladder stands and hang ons, if i have a guest i just put them in the stand i think is best…for them and the conditions.
If that’s my best stand, so be it. Deer hunting has gotten to greedy if you ask me…

Honestly we’ve got a mix of ladders and hang ons. If someone else comes to hunt with us we give them the choice on where they want to sit. If it’s someone older (senior citizen) we just have them sit one of the ladder stands. More for safety reasons than anything

I only hunt out of ladder stands anymore. So all my ladders are in good spots to hunt. I usually put family and friends in the best stand based on the wind for that day. If it's one that I have seen a good one out of I'll let them know where I saw it and what the general travel pattern is for deer from the stand. I'm to the point that I'm thrilled to get to hunt with someone and see them succeed.

I ask because I take loads of people on my farms. Quite a few from this forum . I always let them pick. Ex. I have over 10 stands on my main farm and as long as we are not sitting on top of each other I pick last. But sometimes you hang a stand and think hmmmm this could be better. I have never been called greedy nor am I taking the high Rd. But not all stands were created equal.

The greedy comment was in response to the guy that said he doesn’t let a guest sit his good spots. FYI

In the past, I may have reserved a stand location for myself, but only if I was planning to hunt it that day. I used to bring family and friends onto a lease back then and we had a couple ladders and a few climbers already set. I never really cared who hunted where, but I was always mobile even then.

Now I don't have leases, nor any real bow hunting friends or family here anymore, but I do have a buddy I'd let sit my prime spots anytime he felt like getting back into it. Also, I'm not real sure they are prime spots just yet. Lol. Haven't hunted it long enough.

That comment about me not letting people sit my good stands was a sarcastic comment towards Fix. Seeing how we both hunt the same stands and properties. The comment I made afterwards is how things work on any of the properties we hunt.

This actually stemmed from the last stand we put up at his property last weekend... After a long day and plenty of sweat we finished the day with a ladder stand in a good spot but not great. We decided to let the In-laws sit it

Speaking of stands the one on the laneway might be the most active.

Might have to add a stand by the end of the month as long as I can figure out which direction the bigger bucks on my property keep heading. 60 yards between cameras in a straight line and you get them on one and not on the other. They’re either heading back into the bedding area or heading through the open woods towards the vineyards down the road.

Opening that up to the forum. If you have 2 cameras along a wood line or laneway or trail and you get pics of mature bucks on both but in sequence do you adjust the cams to figure out patterns or be happy seeing them

Depends. I can see redeploying locations to get a handle on direction.

Going to move locations to get it narrowed down. Who knows how their movements will change in another month and half

I'd want to know where they are going. It would be worth the risk early season for me. Like you say, pattern will definitely shift soon enough.
