Find the turds from track and you'll know if it's deer, elk or moose (looks like elk to me).

No elk or moose near Foley MN, just big fat corn fed deer.

Yeah it’s not elk just a large whitetail. Ground has been saturated last few weeks that could certainly be a factor.

Did Joe see his shadow this year?
Isn’t it usually around Independence Day?

For what ever reason, I’m just not feeling it this year…

Hey everyone!!! I’m way behind compared to every other year, I think that’s well warranted with 2 under 2 now!!! Archer has been great so far, already sleeping through the night and he turns 3 months tomorrow. Have new gas strings to put on my bow but haven’t gotten to my buddies to set it up, also got another dozen arrows, still need cut and fletched. As for hunting property, I’ll be on private and public in MD this year, I’m sure I won’t be getting down as much as previous years. I also went and wrote 100 letters to nearby landowners and got back a single yes to hunting. Only about 20 minutes from the house and it’s in a special reg unit that I’ll be able to hunt earlier and later than most of the state. Got the yes back in early June but still haven’t gotten out to walk the property, I drove by a few times on my way home from work and have been seeing some deer out in the fields so I’m excited to get out there and check it out!

I was wrong on farm field, alfalfa.deer hitting it hard, but just 3 or 4, not a good sign no fawn.
Turkey living in my rye. Yesterday a fox attacked just 20 yrds away as I picked berry. Well he grabbed her ttwce as she flew up out of the rye but she got away after I yelled. I then slipped into the rye to see damage to her. I found a small tuff of feathers. I stood quietly and watched seed heads. Sure enough he was still there searching for poults.the movement headed my way. I stood quiet till the last moment, at a few feet I let loose like a crazed bangee and charged him! He jumded about 2 foot turnng mid air as I ran at him screaming. He was running scared, me literally on his tail. Obviously way faster, off he was. Actually a pretty little guy, reddish brown full tail, darker ears and kind of short.
Didn't that hen return as soon as I went back to picking. Then later let me walk just 5 ft past her as she stood in our pine and I picked berries near by she stayed....
fun experience, though now I worry for my free range chickens..
The rye is nearly ready and will be dragged down soon.

    Lets recap
This was 12 days ago and the high temp was high 80's to low 90's. Yes 104 feel with humidity. Only going to get worse. Yesterday I was wearing a sweatshirt. Low 70's and low 50's at night. Darn right cold at night and this morning
A TYPICAL NYS SUMMER. You all know my word to discrbe her. Just stick stupid infront of it. BTW, I live up state

The WMA where I do the majority of my bowhunting has always had an open youth rifle weekend in November. This year, it went a permit draw for the youth weekend. Both of my boys drew 2 of the 10 permits.

As a kid growing up in upstate, there used to be about 2 weeks per summer of temps maybe stretching into the 90s...we didn't have 'feels like' temps when I was a kid...doesn't look like it's changed to me...but what do I know...

Sup y'all?!! I stepped outside the other morning and it was 57 degrees and I smelled the smell. I looked at my wife and said, "well damn, I guess I am going in the woods this fall!" I feel like the killing part of me is long gone, and now I'm in it for the unique experiences that we as hunters only get to witness, i.e., The picturesque sunrises, nature, etc. I was debating on bringing a camera with me and get my "Kills" that way unless I saw a buck I'd want to shoot. I'm not sure what the season will hold, but I'll be there with y'all like usual!

Life has had its ups and downs over the off season, I had to put down my 14 year old baby girl beagle, Sandy this past April and it shook me to my core. I'm still trying to adjust to the awful stuff I hear from my clients on a daily basis, I swear I'm a magnet for people who have experienced trauma. To which I say, "Bring it on, I got you!" I still have Fridays off and plan on hunting Fridays, and Saturdays this fall as of now. I hope all is well with everyone, and looking forward to sharing the woods and interwebs again as we chase down our dream seasons!!
