I am going to give that doe overnight. I promised son I would take him out with the crossbow tomorrow. We will head back to the same spot, look for the second doe and the sit the food plot for the last couple hours of daylight. Going to give at least 24 hours pretty sure it was straight up guts on the second one.
Arrow on the right is from the first doe, that I think may be a brisket hit. I had thought the broadhead had broken off at the insert. But, it came unscrewed. Insert is fine, never seen that before, weird shot all the way around.

No luck on the doe. My son, a buddy and I grid searched the lake shore and a couple of creek bottoms with thick bedding. Covered about a square mile. It is warm enough that she is probably no good anymore. set up with my son and the crossbow for the last couple of hours of daylight. Hopefully, he proves himself to be a better shot than I did.

We are home, didn’t see anything with my son. Buddy had one come in right at the end of legal light, but passed on the shot due to low light.
Had the day off from work today but decided to take a break from hunting. It warmed up to 75 today. My oldest was out of school, so we went fishing. Caught 7 trout.

Now that made me laugh. I showed it to the wife and she laughed too. Yeah, I have to agree that I am truly living the dream. Now that deer season is officially finished I uncovered my bass boat. I’ll prep it tomorrow and I’m headed to Tennessee Wednesday on a bass fishing trip That’s my life now. Six months of deer hunting and then six months of bass fishing.
Arkansas season officially ends on 28 February every year. This year the flooding has prompted the closing of all the flood-prone zones so I don’t have anywhere to hunt or I’d still be hunting. Kentucky season opens the first Saturday of September. That is practically a full six months of deer hunting, although I don’t think I’ll be returning to hunt Kentucky any longer. Missouri season opens 15 September so I’ll have to make so with 5 1/2 months of deer hunting.
All I can say is Wow! Here in NYS they'd rather see hired sharp shooters to cull than bow hunters actually hunting. Close down for the snow mobiles when snow falls barely allow for many days and much of that happens at night. Nothing against snowmobiles we own them. Then again we aren't allowed to hunt coyotes year around either, even though they are so bad here we are afraid to let A. J. Out at night without his E collar on. The howling near house has him on constant alert all night whining and growling.
