Congrats to your boy Oldcarp. That's a lot of meat there! Good job on you, son in law and other sons helping him pack it out.
it is sort of unwritten rule in the family. If somebody shoots an elk it’s a family ordeal. I’m really blessed to have boys and son-in-law actually help out quite a bit.
I'm at it as well man, nothing good to report as of now however. I did everyone decide on buying the V3x 33 however over the 29. I also discovered from a trusted buddy as I have always known I truly need to work on my shot form. I've never had issues until this year on deer really, but is what it is. Anyways, I've known for a while when I was younger I had a bow that didn't fit me and self taught myself well my "anchor" was never much of an anchor and I was always fearful of really tucking in and along my face for some reason so my "anchor" actually isn't against my face at all and the only point of contact was the way I positioned my thumb sticking out and touching the same spot. Essentailly "hovering" He was shocked I've shot as well as I have over the years but I think it was one of those things where I shot a ton and consistently found the same spot....fast forward to the last two years and this year especially and I simply haven't been shooting as much which might have led to the shots and ultimately the issues due to what I suspect was inconsistent anchoring and form. I video'd myself shooting the other day when I came home from the bow shop and was shocked at how inconsistent but often closed my stance was which automatically causes unnatural body fighting to open my hips back out to be properly aligned...and I noticed I'm tense through the shoulders and often could be seen allowing my left shoulder to elevate into a lifted position instead of relaxed and down. I look forward to revisiting it all truthfully and essentially retraining myself from a form perspective...the stance and shoulders will be easy as I just got lazy and inconsistent...the anchor point is going to be a blank bale shooting hundreds of times focusing solely on anchor and form until it is the new "muscle memory". All of course happening after the season and in January.
This looks like a pretty hefty doe for these parts. I probably should have been in a tree this afternoon instead of in my recliner. Would have been a 15 yard quartering away shot on her right hand side.
Anyone heard from Mudlake in a while? Last he posted he was in Florida hunting if I remember correctly but that’s not saying much as I have a terrible memory?
His last post was on November 19th. That was when he posted that he couldn’t find the deer he had shot the previous evening.
I’ll be out this afternoon - taking bow given stand I’m heading to so chance if I shoot something it will be a buck that will help us. Not sure I’m as picky as I once was so may not help a ton but we shall see.
